FINALLY! TL/CL Radio Kit by Metra

Metra has finally come out with a Radio kit for our cars. Unfortunately, it's not a double din kit. It supposedly has a small tray under the single din. It's said to be similar to the MDX kit on their homepage. They haven't added our kit to their site yet.

"The 99-7868 from Metra is available now. You should be able to get one at a retail shop near you. It fits the 99-Up TL and 01-Up CL. Good Luck hope this helps. "

It's great that we now have a dash kit. Does anyone know if there are any wire harness's that plugs into the stock harness?

Isn't it always the case? As soon as I paid for custom made dash kit, the kit become available. Damn this sucks.

Metra Kit

I was just over at Tweeter looking at head units and asked about kits. I've seen posts on here about how much Tweeter charges for installs/custom kits but I was surprised when he pulled out a copy of Mobile Electronics (I assume a recent one) and showed me the Metra kit. As stated above, it's for 99 and up TL's and 01 and up CL's. It showed a pic of it (looked very close, if not exactly the same as the turbo kit for the MDX shown on Metra's site, but the plastic color was darker) and he ordered it for me. 2 weeks to get here, and $14.99. You simply cannot beat that price. I don't know about the quality of the match on the ABS plastic but it looked close enough to me in the picture.

Now, any recommendations on MP3/CD head units? The guy offered Alpine because you can browse/choose mp3s while one is playing, where other units force you to stop the current song. Off to research that info now, and start my list. I'd prolly cap my selection at $400 unless there's a unit out there that has some sick/unique functionality.

later,

-D

hey man, if this is true, that means that Tweeter fucked me by charging $125. Could you please find out exactly what issue and what page it was on, so that i can go back to the store and bitch them out.

Also, if it's possible can you find out the model number and stuff like that of the Kit.

Thanks.

My invoice says:

Item Number: 26
Item Description: DOGS 997868 Acura CL Kit
Unit Price: 14.99

Not sure on the issue... called up but the guy was busy doing an install. I just looked on http://www.me-mag.com/t_home.cfm and they only have the June issue up, and that's not the picture I saw. It had to be July or August's.

Was it $125 just for the custom kit? or kit + install?

Good luck.

It was just for the kit. Then additional $75 to install the head unit into the kit.

Let me know when you get a hold of the guy.

Thanks.

Does that include rewiring around the factory amp? What all was on your invoice? Did they build the kit, or is it the same kit we're talking about?

They built the kit from scratch, and made it aluminum (as you can see in the pics). There were a bunch of charges. I was more concerened about the final dollar amount. I did not care too much what they charge me for individual stuff. The way my system is right now, there isn't a single componant or wire that is stock. Everything is brand new. I had them re-wire my front door speakers, head unit, amps, everything.

Does the note holder get to stay or does it have to go?

I just ordered it from tweeter. Thanx for the info guys. They said it should be in in less than 2 weeks. I will get it installed and show pics asap. Who do you guys think i should have do the install? Tweeter, abt electronics, or autosound. I wasnt to happy with tweeters custom work, but this isnt custom so i dunno if i should just go to who is cheaper? Is there some harness i need also? Thanx for the advice in advance.

The note holder can be removed from the stock unit. I currently have a cheesy Honda kit. I have been waiting for this new kit since 2001. I think in order to have a double din unit the noteholder would have to go for sure. If the CL kit has a single din and a small tray it should leave room to keep the note holder.
