fiberglass guys... need some help.
this is what i have done so far.

well first off the staples wouldn't go in so that kinda sucked. but after enough i got them to go in a little bit. my question is is that enough fleece on the sides to get a good bond between the fiberglass?
so i just mix up a batch of resin and brush it on? do i just do the out side or do i do the inside as well?
i know i got to lay fiberglass on the inside or even lay another layer of felt on top of this one which i am going to do. i am just asking whats the procedure for the ininitial first layer of resin?
Thanks

You could have just overlapped the fleece big time and used tape to hold it. Then layed a thin coat of resin on it to stiffen it up. But anyway,
What you want to do is lay a thin coat of resin on the outside. Dont bring the resin too far over the edges of the speaker hole since you have to cut the speaker out. Once it dries lay a thick coat on the inside as well. Then when that dries Dump a butt load of resin on that inner edge where the fleece meets the box and roll the box around till that inside seem is full of resin all the way around. That will bond the fleece and the box together well. Then do the same to the inside where the speaker mount meets the fleece. If you don't, the first drop of bass will seperate the fleece from the speaker mount. Once all that dries you can add layers of cloth or mesh to the inside as needed along with resin. Looks good so far.
Been wondering how far you've gotten on it. Looks good so far. Hurry up and get it in the car

plan on dropping the car first.

Looks pretty good, you will probalby want to buy some fiberglass cloth which has a smooth surface and do a top coat of this with lots of resin after applying to the fleece so you get a nice smooth finish. Remember to use lots of gloves and have plenty of brushes handy.
Have fun.

i don't think there is any way in hell that i would be able to get fiberglass on the outside to look good at all. theres too much contour and it wouldn't work.
im just gonna cut up a bunch of shapes of glass and lay they randomly inside until i get it stiff enough. its gonn be a royal pain in the ass cause i cant see shit. almost tempting cutting a hole in the back so i can get some light and see what i am doing. will see after my first layer.
gloves plenty, brushes i use sparingly.
looks like this weekend the whol apartments gonna smell like resin again.

I understand what you mean by wanting to cut a hole in the back, but don't do it. It is gonna be a P.I.A. to get stuff on the inside with all those rods in the way. Do the best you can spreading resin all over the inside. Slosh it around the edges like I said. Then as Zasker said, get some fiberglass cloth and lay 1 or 2 layers to the front of the box to get it as smooth as you can and strengthen it. Then pour more resin inside and slosh it
If you're gonna paint the outside of the box take a skim coat of "duraglass" to the exterior of the box and sand it smooth. If you're just gonna carpet the outside, the material will hide most of the minor exterior defects. Ahhh, I love the smell of resin in the morning....

one question i have is. after i get a good layer of resin on the fleece do i take out the dowels?
i think it will be hard to lay fiberglass on the inside if i have them in there?

you could take out teh dowels, or do what CJ mentions and poor a crap load of resin in there and swirrle it around or use a brush with no handle. Hope you have alot of resin as the fleece will soak up quite a bit.
where do you plan on mounting this in your car?

I wouldn't take them all out, but you do have a bunch of them in there and it wouldn't hurt to remove a few. I say leave at leats 2 or 3. You cold get by without any once all the glass work has been done, but it doesn't hurt to have more support. It looks like you hot glued them in there. If thats the case you're gonna want to strengthen them with some glass. That glue won't be able to handle all that bass for long.
And dont go too far past the edge of the box with resin when putting it on the fleece. Your gonna want to trim all that excess stuff away where you have the staples. If you glass that area the box wont fit the same. Thats why you need to strengthen that connecting area from the inside. Can't wait to see the pics when it's done.

alright.
the dowels are hot glued. im just saying that if i have to lay glass on the seem on the inside i think the dowels would compensate the quality glass job i could do.
i have 5 gallons of resin so i think i have plenty of it. probably have 15 yds of glass.
went a little overboard with this project.
heres where it will be going. if it ever gets there.

just went out side to check it out.
really realized that it wasn't sticking so far out that it hit the trunk. clears it pretty damn close.
i think it looks pimp. sticks out a little farther than i wanted but i needed the volume.

Then just lay glass over it and build up from the outside, it would be a lot easier than working from inside. And if you plan on carpeting it, small imperfections will be covered. Just sand it a bit to smooth out any stray pieces of glass that stick out and it should look okay.

well i coated the fleece with resin...
wasn't as bad as i thought. i noticed it takes a hell of a lot lonnger to dry.
i have alot of wrinkles where i attached the fleece on the out side of the fiberglass.
what should i do here? should i take a dremel and sand it / cut them off?
the inside went pretty well im waiting for that to dry as we speak. it wasn't as bad and i think glassing in there will be not as bad as i anticipated.
so should i do another layer of fleece on the out side and overlap where the other part ended after i cut them and sanded the ridges? then do the same thing for a more finished touch? i don't plan on putting glass on the out side since i think it will look like crap.
sorry for the long post just want to make sure i don't mess this ish up cause its the shell for the front.
thanks

Sounds good to me. But remember the more you build up around the outside edges, the more the box is gonna stick out. Thats why I said to build the glass up on the inside edge. Because even if you build it up on the outside , you're gonna sand most of it away. And by doing that your going to take away the strength. As far as drying goes...did you mix it the same? If it doesn't dry just add more a lot resin to the next coat and it will help accelorate it.
almost there man!
