Factory headunit help please!!!
Factory headunit help please!!!
I have a 2002 TL-S and the headunit got jammed. So my question is will a headunit from a 99-01 headunit be compatible, like just plug and play, i know that I will lose the 6disc part but I dont car about that. The 99-01 still has a singel disc cd player right.
Ha, I had the same problem. After taking mine apart and unjamming it, it wouldn't play CD's anymore. Here's what I did...love it!!
CLICK ->> Replacement for Jammed 6-CD Bose HU
Sounds much better than that stock P.O.S. Who needs a 6-CD changer when you can play MP3 discs?

Yes it depends what you are planning to do on the longrun though. If you want to keep your system stock, then the best route is to go with another stock headunit swap. If you plan on upgrading your system in the future, then I would suggest you replace your headunit with an aftermarket one, seeing that you have a perfect excuse to do so.
If you replace the stock headunit you will lose the functionality of the stock subwoofer, but you will easily be able to hook up an aftermarket amp and subwoofer as many of us have done. So, if you give us a good idea of where you are headed with your system, we will be able to help you out and point you in the right direction.

BTW, the best price I could find on a used 6-disc replacement was $600 shipped. I'm glad I replaced mine now. Sounds much better even through the crappy stock speakers.

From what i know, its not really worth even running the stock sub, might as well take it out and leave the hole to port a sub from the trunk to pass thru.
Yea all i want is to keep the stock system for now. I just want the stock HU with a cd player that works, so as long as the 99-01 tl HU will be plug and play just plug it in and good to go then im fine with that, i dont care about the 6 disc changer i just want a working system with a cd player. to be able to slid mine out now and just plug a new one in, but were you sayiny that if i get the 99-01 hu thenmy sub wont work?

If you get a 99-01 HU, the stock sub will work, but keep in mind, there is the issue of those HU's being unable to read CD-R's. If i were you i would look around for a used 02-03 HU or see if you can get your jammed one replaced under warranty.
Hey,I just purchase aftermarket HU and looking to get rid of my stock HU. It's from 2003 CLS. and YES it does have problems playing CD-R's Cds would get stuck when changing or ejecting CDs. Let me know if you are interested.

CL Headunits are not Plug-n-Play with TL's and vice versa. He would need to get a TL HU.
