Efficientcy on amplifier

What does the efficientcy on an amplifier mean? What should amps be running at? Mine says 62%.

Dennis,

What that means is that 38% of your amp is wasted by generating heat instead of useable power. Not going to find amps that are 100% effient.

So is 62% about average? I know a D class amp will have a higher efficientcy. I have a RF 800a2.

Dennis,

This article explains your questions.

Questions are valid but not much you can do about the current products are out there unless you design your own amp. There are limitations to the technology also. To get higher efficiency amps means $$$. Probably not going to hear the difference for the amount of $$ you spend.
