ECLIPSE Aluminum subs.... Answering questions

Hey all, I just read poor NOLACLS's thread that pretty much got shat on. Anyways, the question was asked about the ECLIPSE 88120 Aluminum Subs. Now, as an owner of these awesome subs I can provide some info.

First, the subs will sound the best in a sealed enclosure. I have mine in a 2^3ft shared airspace enclosure with 2 88120DVC's. Each sub is powered by a Soundstream 1002 amp. Thats around 1kW PER sub.... let me tell you -- THESE BABYS POUND BUT THEY ARE ALL FOR SQ.

If anyone has any questions on these wonderful subs, please do not hesitate to post.

Well, actually its 2 cubic feet shared between the two. Unfortunatley, I have never had only one in the trunk so I cant answer that question for ya but I can tell you GET READY TO BUY RAAMMAT, DYNAMAT, BROWN BREAD, whatever because those puppies are going to rattle like none other....

FUNNY STORY -
A friend of mine in my mustang club has the Mach 1000 sound system. For those of you that know, this is the NEW mach system to replace the 460. Now, the 1000 has 1000 total watts of power in the systema and 2 10 or 8 inch subs I believe. Anywho, this guy was very sure that whatever I had couldnt be anywhere close to what he had. Well, I said we could test it out -- you choose the music. So, he pulls out the Luda CD : word of mouf. Anywho, he says track 12. Now, I have heard track 12 before and I can tell you that its a bitchload of bass... Im confident though. So, he pumps his stereo up - bass hits - a little distrorion but not much. I told him it was very nice. Then, of course he asks to hear mine again sure that he is going to kick my ass.... Well, I turn the CD player on put in the CD, switch to 12 and then turn it up to 20 on the volume (out of a possible 40) ..... SHIT POUNDS... my friend next to the car starts to scream because the bass was making her queasy..... I turn the system off..... "holy shit" was his reaction .... his questions as follows

Him : damn dude, what are you running? A couple 15"s?
Me : 2 12"s
Him : SPL setup?
Me : Nope purley SQ
Him : total system wattage?
Me : 2400W for just the subs.... =)

Also, just to let you know I had the Gain to ZERO on both of the amps and also the sub setting to 0 on the head ....

Nice work ECLIPSE!

NOLA, I know you will love those subs!

500W? From what kind of an amp? The eclipse will love a really clean wattage. I would suggest 750W or so. Also, if you only want to do one, I would suggest the 12". Last but not least, take the ECLIPSE over the audiobahn.... ECLIPSE is Much much much superior to audiobahn IMO. And from listening to both, I would go for the 'CLIPSE.

Hmmm ..... the JL amp should do good for the sub.. As far as a shop letting you test it out in your car is going to be sketchy because of the power system that you would need to support a 500W amp. I mean you cant just run it off the tail lights or something =) Well, if you are ever in Virginia, you should stop by and check out my setup.

No I have the 500/1 its not hooked up yet...I have a whole system but I want a different sub that is smaller and lighter than my IDMAX. I plan on hooking everything up including the 500/1 and then just try out different ones. But noone here has any in stock...you have to order them

ya, back to the matter at hand....i have had the eclipses a while now, and the sad thing....i have the loudest system in my college town (and its only 2 12's!) anyway, i have 2 eclipse alum 88000's with a rockford 800.2 (400 x 2) and trust me, this amp is dyin!!!!!! cause its pushin hard to make the subs happy....i recomend atleast 500 watts rms to each sub. i also have them in an enclosed box (2 cu/ft airspace) and its perfect...good luck guys...check my link for pics of my new trunk if you wanna see my setup!

I am curious why you say they'll sound best in a sealed enclosure. About 90% of subs out there sound better (and are more efficient) in a properly tuned ported box. Just curious bro .

Id be happy to oblige Austin. The ECLIPSES are a totally SQ sub. After talking with the nice people at Fujitsu 10 for a couple hours going over configurations and such it became apparent that these subs were not made for a ported enclosure. In their own words "these subs sound their best with ~1kW of clean power and a sealed enslosure. And, they were right! I have heard other ones with a port (forgot what hz it was tuned to) and frankly mine sounds worlds better. But Austin, I do agree that if you want a loud sub, a ported enclosure is the way to go.

I ask because now that I think about it...I've never done the aluminums in a ported enclosure...so I'd be interested in comparing the two...thanks for the reply
