eclipse 8053 vs. 8443

$399 installed for a new cd8443....or $425 for a used cd8053 and I install myself. which one should I do?

I can install it easy, but there is no warranty if I do it vs. a 3 year warranty at the dealer...

is the 8053 worth it for the better outputs and no internal amp?

I certainly cannot hear the difference between the 8053 & 8443 compared side by side (same amp, speakers, wires, etc). Only thing is you get digital input & the NOB remote with the 8053 which is cool.

The CD8053 sounds hands down better than the CD8443... No question at all, but you will need to buy twice as many cables because its a balanced out (which is why you wouldn't be able to listen to them with the same cables). For those of you that don't know, with a balanced out, instead of having one front left RCA, the stereo will have two (one positive and one negative). The idea is that music is dynamic, and will not ever be positive and negative at the same time at any given frequency on any channel, so, if noise is entering the system through the RCAs of a system, it is not dynamic. It will be equal on both the positive and negative RCA, which is combined just before entering the amplifier. If I have noise of -1 and add a level of 1, they cancel out, effectively lowering the noise floor. It's a lot easier to diagram out, sorry for any confusion. If you haven't heard one of these in a car, I can understand some skepticism, but the CD8053 is a great choice if you want to do a highend system, however, I would buy the CD8443 brand new, with the three year warranty, and the theft gaurantee.

The crossover in both of these stereos is absolutely incredible!

finally got my 8443 in with the metra dash kit. sounds real good. only problem is that whenever I turn it on I get a big 'whump' noise through the speakers, like a heavy bass note as the deck is turning on. anyone know why that would happen?

heres a pic though, it came out kinda crappy buy you can see the kit at least I think.

Are you using the amp in the 8443? I would check your connections.

Kyle - You must have very sensitive ears. I certainly couldn't hear THAT much difference between balanced and unbalanced signals on the 8053 connected to a JL 450/4.

nope, I'm running two seperate amps, not the internal.

I'll try checking all those connections though.

The sound you're getting sounds like turn on pop..... You can hopefully bypass that with a relay, but try disconnecting one amp to see if that solves the problem, let us know what happens... All you have to do is disconnect the remote wire....

The difference in sound between the CD8053 and CD8443 is a pretty big difference.... You're talking about 8 volts vs 16 volts, and the 16 volt system cancels out a large amount of induced noise. Did you hear it in a car? or a sound room with the JL amp? In a car is teh way to do it. We just ran a few more RCA's in a 300M we did an install in so that the customer could hear the difference, and he loved it and bought the new deck....

Beetroot.. what kind of security system do you have? (I noticed the blue remote) and I'm thinking of upgrading my stereo as well.

Also..about the eclipse deck..how do you like it? Can you get a clearer picture? I was going to purchase that unit as well..but then heard about the difficulties in installing it w/o dealer support. Maybe when I start making more money I'll upgrade to eclipse.

The security system is a viper 790 xv. The blue remote is 2 way, so anything that happens to the car will show up on the remote...if the alarm is going off it will indicate that with the remote...if someone breaks the glass it will tell me... door open it will tell me, etc. I think this is the best thing I have put in my car. It gives me complete peace of mind...I know that no one is stealing my stereo or my car at all times. Its also nice for false alarms, so you aren't the a**hole with your alarm sounding all night. It works from 1/4 mile away or something crazy like that. I didn't get this (yet) but you can get it with remote start and windows up/down too. Very nice for the desert heat...get that A/C going before you get to the car.

I could go on about it for a while...but trust me its a worthwhile investment.

And yeah I will take a better pic of the deck tomorrow. I am really happy with it. It looks nice and sounds great. It is minimalist too, not a lot of flashy lights and fancy displays like a lot of decks have now. I'm real happy with it. I had no problems with the install, but I had already stripped the stock stereo so I didn't have to deal with the Bose connectivity issues either.

Kyle - Yes, it was evaluated in my car off a JL & Xtant. On either amp, I (along with the car audio shop people) did not notice THAT big of a difference between 8V & 16V. A slight improvement maybe, but not what most people claim to be night and day.

Here are some pics of my 8443 & Rio Car MP3 player.

So... They ran 3 extra sets of RCA's in your car?????? The 8053 takes 6 pairs or RCA's, plus three short RCA's, for a total of 9..... Your front Right speaker would have both a positive and negative RCA..... They really ran all of this, or did they only hook up part of the deck???? You can't just swap from one to the other to see how it sounds, there's a lot more too it.
