Exclamation Eclipse 5435 vs. Pioneer AVIC-D1? Which one

Bestbuy and circuit city only carry the pioneer Avic-D1 & N2, they don't carry the eclipse. I want to know which is a better system from these two?
Thanks

Eclipse used to be the bomb, but they have gotten to be more and more like Pioneer and Sony.

Anyone have actual experience with this unit?

i know very little about the new Eclipse unit. But it is my understanding that it is pretty hard, almost impossible to bypass the ebrake in the pioneer. Because of this system you cannot set the nav while driving. I believe the Eclipse still uses the old way of just grounding the ebrake wire. Do you need to set the nav while driving or not? This might be a deciding factor for you

I second that on the eclipse. The pioneer is a great unit, but the eclipse should sound alot better

How about McIntosh or ClarionProAudio? Are they going downhill too? It seems their stuff is getting cheaper.

It does just not while the Nav disc is in. I believe that it will work just like the AVIC-N1 or N2. With those unit you can set in your destination then remove the disc. The route is saved in memory and you can put a DVD movie in. The only thing with the D1, is that you cannot bypass the e-brake wire. The unit used a gyro set-up inside the unit to know when your moving. The AVIC-N1 and N2 have a gyro also, but in the N1 it was not tied in with the e-brake.

I have the AVIC-N2

The AVIC-D1 will not fit in my 03 TL so I got the AVIC-N2 which is the flip out model....as for the D1 it does not play DVDs b/c it doesnt have a DVD player..you have to use an external...although the N2 does have a DVD player with alot of other toys....I got that, 2 Amps 1 12in 1000watt rms sub and my system sounds great, so I'd go with the N2 if i was you...but that's just b/c i've enjoyed mine so much

If you go on eclipse's website they give you a number that forwards you to the closest authorized shop to do the job.
