Easy Amp off switch?
Easy Amp off switch?
Since my previous fm receiption / class d related question..
Since i really dont care about a sub for most FM listening, instead of getting another amp is there a good way to create per se a off switch for the amp.
I'm sure the easiest way would be to put some kind of switch on the remote lead but i'm not sure how you would do that since most switches are two leads.. of course i guess I could put the negative lead to the ground and the positive going through the switch.. right?
Please help me remove my head from my ass on this one..
If its going to be a hella pain in the ass i'll just live with it until i find a new amp i like..
I tried a kenwood amp and it didnt quite work because i have 4 gauge running back and it had 8 gauge inputs and i didnt feel like fucking around with two distro blocks..

I'm not going to be of too much help here but I don't think it's going to be too hard to do. The shop that installed my sub amp put in a switch for me in the area to the left of the steering wheel column so I think it's pretty easily done. I asked him to add a switch for me so that I could turn off my sub at will and he did it in about 15 minutes or so.
The way I did mine is to add a simple rocker switch on the remote line coming from the amp. It's a lot easier and safer to switch that line than it is to switch your power line. The remote line is the thin one that connects to a switched power source to turn your amp on when the car is on. If you have a switch on that line the amp will still only turn on when you have the car on but you can override it at any time.
