dynomat, rattling, help....EMERGENCY!!!!!
dynomat, rattling, help....EMERGENCY!!!!!
OK...tommorow is the big day for me. I have the entire weekend off and my friend and I are gonna be building my custom trunk. I used to have 2 12" Rockford subs w/ a Hifonics amp....sounded awesome but my whole trunk would rattle from the outside. some from the quarter panels and some from the spoiler. NOW....I purchased plenty of dynomat and covered the entire trunk-lid underside, and mostly all of the under-deck by the trunk springs. AND it got much better but it still rattles and is embarrassing when I drive around.
The reason for this post is I need some EMERGENCY HELP!!!!!!Like I said I'm gonna be building my custom trunk set-up tommorow and this whole weekend, gotta fix it right!! I'm not buying anymore dynomat because I can't put it anymore. I've asked other car-audio shops in the area and a few of them have told me to use roofing tar in an aerosole can. Just spray in the cracks and crevises and let dry and it should seal everything up and stop rattles. IS THIS TRUE??????IF NOT THEN WHAT CAN I USE????? I was thinking of using undercoating like the bottom of our cars have...that black sticky rubber type shit....but anyways...I need some help guys and I need it within the next 12 hours
Please tell me what u have used and where to buy it and how it worked for u. Thanks in advance to all who respond. Pics will be up soon of the completed project!!

what up...I am in the same situation, my whole trunk and rear deck has dynamat...sounds great on the inside but the outside sounds like shit.
You really cant stop that in a trunk...honestly. You can get your trunk tightend down I do believe...my installer told me that. Other than that, you are SOL.
I mean the subs are actually moving the air inside that small trunk so much that the trunk lid itself is actually moving...unless you bolt the trunk down...get used to it.

Spoiler fix is easy. Go to a craft store and buy polyfill (the white stuff that looks like cotton) Take of the spoiler and stuff it inside it. I took off my spoiler light and stuffed it in there. Use a stick to shove it in there good. My spoiler makes no rattles.
I would also stuff polyfill inside the trunk lid. Take off the inside cover and stuff it in every hole you see. It's very light so it won't keep the trunk lid from falling down.
Note: If you dynamat the trunk lid that will help too, but be warned. The added weight might keep the lid from staying up when you open it. I would stuff polyfill in the quarter panels too. It's cheap, light and easy to work with and is a good sound dampener.

I tried dynmatting, didnt do shit. I put about 75 sq ft and its still horrible. I too would like to know how to stop the rattle.

OK....system is complete and pics will be up in a few days...As for the rattling...GO BUY SOME UNDERCOATING!!!!I bought two cans at pep-boys and sprayed mosly the insides of the quarter panels. I also coated the insides of my custom built boxes to ensure an air-tight seal. Just about every rattle I ever had is gone. Now all I have is a slight rattle (AT FULL VOLUME) from the spoiler. My license plate doesn't even rattle. The cans say right on them undercoating and sound dampener. Plus my car bumps ridiculously hard now. I am SOOOOOOOO HAPPY w/ the results. Again...pics will be up soon. About the only thing I have to do now is remove the spoiler and fill it w/ polyfill and it should be perfect!!!
First u have to remove all of ur trunk panels...the bottom one and the two sides, ya know..the carpeted ones. They are held in by a couple of small clips and the screwed down cargo net holders. Then once all is exposed, i sprayed both sides very well. Including the insides of the actuall quarter panels. Then I sprayed some on the bottom, not in the spare well but the bottoms on the sides. I allready have dynomat on the entire trunk lid and rear deck assy. The only bare parts of my trunk that don't have any rattle modifications are the spare tire well and the upper deck by the trunk springs.
The only thing is this shit is nasty...smells like crap and stains everything. plus it comes out of the aerosole can like liquid tar. It will take atleast 4-5 hours to dry so mae sure u have some time. Then just apply a good amount covering the enitre area you plan on using it on w/ nice even strokes of the can leaving a thin layer the tar-like shit. Then just let dry and test!!
hehe...i'm just making a few very small finishing touches and then the pics and full description w/ be posted. So...keep ur pants on guys
Darren..u'll see sooner or later, as for the meet. I dunno...i didn't even know there was another one goin down. Maybe I'll go, but not too sure.

Its not really Jersey its right over the GW. We can meet up before and you can follow me. I went to a meet at the same location last month and it only took me 20-25 mins to get there from my house.
