DVD unit experiences

Just found the site, and have to say its awesome. My wallet is going to be a lot lighter, and I havent even picked up my CL yet!

The car comes next week, and I am preparing for the dvd conversion into the nav screen. I've emailed a few members but I figured I would ask here as well: I was wondering what your experiences are (those who have dvd in the car) with the different units out there: model, ease of use, function, shock protection, quality etc...

My primary interest is actually the mp3 playback, as its the main reason I want to put this in. I am most curious about how your unit may navigate the mp3 cd, how easy it is to get through folders, and how well it displays ID3 tag info. I heard a rumor that some even do graphic geiss type displays while playing.

I am debating also, between the mounted and ultra-thin portable types that are emerging on the market. Those would fit perfectly and hardly noticed into the glove box, but small units like that tend to be horrible for their on-screen displays. I'd like to keep the unit in reach though, so disks can be changed on long trips and such without going into the trunk. All of them seem inexpensive enough, so it really comes down to meeting my needs.

Thanks everyone!

Try an Alpine CDA9715 and use a separate DVD player such as the Eclipse DV3101 with an Eclipse screen. The DVD player is 3/4 din and can fit just about anywhere, and does a great job against skipping. Picture quality is great with Eclipse screens, and off axis viewing isn't horrible. The CD player is great, it reads tags fine, and navigation is easy. You can burn songs into folders, or just burn it normally. The quick search feature is great, you just turn the nob and it changes tracks quickly and easily.
