DVD...?'s / advise

OK...I read the sticky and I have come to realize I am the most retarded person in the world, because I could not understand a damn thing except how to run cables. To think I used to repair air traffic radios prior to becoming a controller.....

Anyways......I am in the market of getting a DVD player and screen/s installed. After searching I have come to the assumption I will need this SNHOND3 in order to even hook up a player to run through my stock speakers/ stereo, correct?

Also there is talk of a Stinger cable...maybe a splitter of some sort...Do I need that too?

With my search of products to buy, I find a lot of Audiovox--is that a good brand? Also Sony sells a flip down screen...which would be better, a Sony flip down, or an Audiovox headrest install w/ Audiovox DVD player? To me a headrest install will prevent someone from cutting up the roof, which I am really hesitant to do.

I am looking to get this installed by this weekend, I have a road trip coming up and my daughter hates car rides, so I thought this might entertain her, being 2 and all. I am not looking to drop a whole lot of money into the set-up because we don't use the TSX that much, so it's kinda for this trip and one more late summer to Dallas, so I am looking to spend 1K or less.......

Hopefully you guys can guide me in the right direction and help me out to make a final decision. Thanks in advance!

A lot of questions there but I'll answer what I know...

I'm not sure what a Stinger cable is but maybe it's a GLI filter? It sounds like you might need one (perhaps two?) especially if you are using any audio source that is powered by the cigarette lighter.

Audiovox is pretty shitty stuff. I'd only use them if it were desperate. I have used Pioneer stuff in the past and had good luck with them. I'd recommend them again.

Somebody posted a link to a shop that sells acura headrests pre-modded with the screens installed. I'd go that route before I chopped a hole in my roof. Besides, if you decided you don't want them it should be pretty easy to pawn off on ebay. If you want to save a couple bucks and you are comfortable with doing some work yourself, perhaps Stokeless could show you the method he used to install his screens.

Ok, scratch the preinstalled headrest idea if you want to keep your budget under $1000. Not exactly for the TSX but one headrest for the MDX was $1100! http://qualitymobilevideo.com/Mercha...t_Code=82-9023

I forgot, you could go with the OEM DVD setup for $1350: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=38649

The benefit here is that you don't need to buy a SNHOND3 unit and worry about GLI issues (not that its really much of an issue). However the SNHOND3 will let you use other devices other than the DVD.

I read the specs and you're right it is FM modulated. For that price it might be worthwhile though.

Thanks for keep your eyes open...
There are a lot of extra parts that would need to be ordered too. Doesn't bring the price up that much, but still a bit of money for FM Modulation...

FM modulation means you will plug a cable in-line with your radio antenna and when you want to use the ives you set the radio to a certain frequency...

"Stinger cable" usually refers to the brand name Stinger, unless I've missed something.

AAMP happens to be a couple blocks away from where I work..
