dumb question

ok
I have a 600 watt 2 channel amp power my rear speakers. That is the only upgrade i have right now.

NOW-- I want to upgrade my front speakers, and tweeters...do i need another amp for this?

When upgrading front speakers, do you need an amp to power those?

In the future, i may also want to through a 15" in the back...MAYBE..not sure...

help out guys, thanks.

Yes, you do need another power source to power replacement front speakers. The factory amp will fry.

You could use your 600w amp to power all four, but it would drop the load on the amp from 4ohms to 2 (or raise it to 8 depending on how you wire the front speakers). If your amp is stable at this ohm rating, that would be okay. You won't have a front to back fader any longer and it will make it a pain in the ass to get the right balance between the front and rear.

Or you could buy a new 4 channel amp to run all your door and rear deck speakers and then use you 600w to drive a sub. That might work better since you're going to have to buy a new amp anyway to power the sub...

I don't think buying another 2 channel amp to power the front speakers really does you any good. You might as well buy a new 4 channel.

Would you be able to run both the front speakers, back speakers, and a sub off of a 4 channel amp?

You could wire it to where the amp would power all the speakers, but there would be no easy way to get the proper frequencies to the sub. You could use 2 of the four channels to power the sub and be able to get it crossed over correctly, but then your back to the same problem of only being able to power 2 of the other speakers without sacrificing your ability to adjust the volume between the front and the back.

Keereckt! I agree with mcdanjw completely. A 4-channel power amp like the JL Audio 300/4 would be the optimal solution--well worth da $$$.
