subs: 12s or 15s?
subs: 12s or 15s?
I'm going to be running my sub(s) of a 500w RMS Soundstream amp. Coming from a previous system of 2-12s, I was thinking I might want a little different sound. What do you guys think of 1-15 in a sealed box (it would be a top-line model, one that could handle 500w rms, of course)? Or do you think I should go back to the 2-12s setup again?
I guess the 12s would be louder, but I don't know by how much.. (I'm aware of the double-surface area, +3db rule... but I'm not getting into SPL comps or anything like that...)

actually, before I had my 2-12s, I was running a 3-10 setup (MTX 8000s). Don't get me wrong, it was NICE bass, just not the kind of bass I like. The bass from the 10s was so sharp, it kinda knocked the breath out of you. I like deep bass on the other hand, which is why I went to 12s, and why I'm now thinking about the 15.
go for the 15. i suggest the alpine type r 1540d. it can handle up to 1500 watts. im only putting 300 into mine, and the whole car is shaking with deep, fine, bellowing bass. it really rumbles
well i say if you get 15s dont just get one...get two...make sure u power it with a class D amp recommended...maybe get two amps total... but if you get one 15...its gonna be deeper...but you lose sound accuracy...and also if you have one 15 , two 12s will be louder than that one fifteen becuase of cone space...so if you double with two fifteens it will be louder...and generally you can bring the ohms down...
