Double Din Indash Screen, Help needed?
Double Din Indash Screen, Help needed?
I'm looking to get the Kenwood Excelon Double Din indash Screen. Question is, They don't make a double din mounting kit. So how could we go upon installing it with one? Anyone have any idea? Oh by the way i have a 2001 CL. Thanks
THere really isn't any such thing as a double-DIN install kit, partially because there aren't any double-DIN radios, really.
Honda and many Japanese suppliers have used double ISO radios, which mount using the screws on the side, NOT using the slide-in can (the defining characteristic of the DIN radio is the roughly 2x7 slide-in can...).
I worked on a 2001 CL not too long ago on a quick demo-car job, and I believe that the OE radio is held into its brackets with ISO screws. What we did is we installed an Alpine Multimedia controller and an Alpine DVD drive stacked in the opening. As I recall it worked fine and we did not need to make a custom trim ring (which is usually what you need to do with those double-ISO radios if the gap is too big or assymetrical.)
Expect some trial and error assembly to get the spacing right.
