Doms unit; cant get video to work..HELP!!

Hey all. I installed the usa spec hon-11 unit in my acura cl-s and im running a slim ps2. Ive got the red and white rcas hooked into the usa unit then the yellow video (is it an S-video or a regular video cable for ps2's?) cable is running to the back. It didnt go far enough to hook into doms unit, but I went to radio shack and got a coupler as well as another three feet of regular video cable. Ive got the power tapped into my 12v adaptor in the center council. Heres the problem; when i power up the ps2 and doms unit, the unit will not switch between navi and the ps2, it stays on the navi screen. The only wires I have connected are the power wires and the black ground coming from doms unit. Anyone know whats goin wrong??!!

It sounds like you don't have all the wire's from Dom's unit grounded. Make sure you ground the 2 whites, the green , the black from Dom's power cord, and the black from the plug n play cable. You then should be able to toggle back and forth between the nav and ps2 with the toggle switch. This will not work for video input 2 though. The 2nd video input is triggered by the blue wire.

Alright, well thanks for that idea...it now has picture. The problem now is that I dont have any sound. Ive got the USA SPEC as I mentioned above...but why am I not getting any sound from the ps2 when its running? Could it be a bad connection from the RCA's? Is there a certian setting I have to have it on when im running the unit?

Did you try plugging in anything else to the RCAs, such as an mp3 player or dvd player, to make sure it's not the UsaSpec adapter?

Is there a certian setting I have to have it on when im running the unit?
Make sure that Dip Switch #1 is set to OFF. It comes preset to ON from the factory. To access the audio the radio needs to be on Cd Changer Disc 6.

Thanks for the reply. WHen I have my ipod playing its on the "cd" setting. There are no cd's in my 6 disc....does that make a difference(could this work without a cd in the cd player) Right now I cant get any cd's in there since im gettin the error code. I never thought this could be so frustrating. Anyway, if I cant figure it out tonite, im gonna strip it down again I guess.....

^^ You need to have the factory deck in CD-C input in order to hear audio from your adapter. Also, I heard the USA spec has something on the actually unit that must be set in order to use the RCA inputs on it. Do a search. There's a good thread out there by Reach who talks about the USA Spec. good luck.

I found the thread....and yes...both switches on the unit had to be switched to off in order to run the ipod in regular mode (non playlists) as well as use the RCA's. THe sound comes in now as well as video so thats perfect....BUT....does anyone know what I can do about the static noise coming through the speakers when im driving or sitting at idle? Its somewhat of a ticking noise...then I can hear my cars engine as well when im driving. Could this be a bad ground? I dont know that much about car speakers and such.... Thanks to all wou've helped so far too!! Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Are there any ground wires that you may have missed? Or are there any wires touching? You're hearing road noise normally caused by a bad ground or another random wire touching the chasis..

I'd tape off any open wires and make sure you have a good ground source..

Hmm..well tried it again today and no luck. For grounds, does each grounded wire have to have its own spot to be grounded to or can they be put together on the same screw?

No they can be together.. As long as it's a good ground..

What are the symptoms right now? What's working and what isn't?

well, the video and the sound are working, but the problem is that through the sound, you can hear the car and other ambient noises, such as a constant ticking noise. The ground is set on the roof of the trunk behind the navi system. I tapped a screw in and sanded the paint part off. Any ideas?

What grounds are you talking about? Which ones are set on the roof of the trunk? Do you mean the Dom's unit's ground wires? If so, those have nothing to do with the interference that your experiencing. Your problem has to do with audio. There are no ground wires to set on the UsaSpec. I experienced the same noise that you have. I don't know about the clicking, but I could hear the engine whenever I would accelerate. What ended up solving my problem was very simple. My dvd player had two pairs of audio outs. I just used the left from audio 1 and the right from audio 2. I don't know how that solved it but it worked. My best guess is bad wire. I would try some different rca's. Maybe it's the UsaSpec itself. Try driving with the adapter in a different location. I read in post somewhere that this ground loop isolator from RadioShack helped him:

Ground Loop Isolator

I'm just throwing out suggestions. Your guess is as good as mine.
