Does Dynamat really works?

I've heard of a lot of people using dynamat to reduce noise or in the trunk to improve bass.
Does it really work?
What would the installation cost to have it in all 4 doors?

It doesn't improve bass it just blocks outside noise from getting in. It makes your car quieter so you don't have to turn your radio up as loud as you would without it. There's all kinds of different types of dynamat on the market so cost will vary quite a bit. If you want to do the doors you could easily spend $250-$350. You can do it your self for about $120-$160 and plan on a couple hours of your time.

I noticed a small improvement when I did my Golf but it had next to no sound damping before I started. The TSX is a very quiet car already so I think the improvement would be even less than that.

Here's a great writeup on the installation process: http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volum...ng-6-2003.html

I should also mention that one possible side effect is that some noises can actually seem louder after you've installed the dynamat. Dynamat or any other sound damping material can't block all sound frequencies. They actually have a fairly narrow range that they filter out. It may seem that something seems louder than before but really it is just the same volume and everything else that was in the background is now quieter.

Dynomat usually does not improve the sound of the radio. However as Dan stated it helps make your car quiter. It also helps with rattles if the dynomat is put the correct location. Hence your car gets quiter and makes your radio seem louder.

You can get the raw materials for about $50-$100 dollars depending on which type of dynomats you use (foam, pads, or buffers).

i've thought about having my tsx done with dynamat, using the actual brand Dynamat. http://www.dynamat.com/

their headquarters is here in cincy and i could actually take my car up there and have them do it.

the company i work for does a lot of work for them, network stuff and hosting, and a guy i work with is good friends with everyone at their office. he had part of his car done and its pretty impressive. i've actually used dynamat in computer cases and its really amazing stuff. i had a big loud steel computer chasis and applied some dynamat to it (didn't even cover the entire inside) and now if you tap on the case it sounds like its a piece of plastic. no reverb, nothing. just a quick dull thud. impressive stuff

remember, there is a price to pay for this silence - added weight, and therefore, slower car with worse gas milage. Covering you entire car in dynamat extreme can easily add a hundred pounds or more.

yeah, thats a good point. the stuff is quite heavy. definitely added a couple pounds to the weight of my computer cases. scale that up to the size of a car and you are probably correct guessing a 100+ extra lbs. i doubt its something i will end up doing, just another one of those "hey what if" projects for the car

I'll rather stick with the factory speaker. They're pretty good.
I changed my whole stereo system in my previous S40 (Pioneer P1 head unit, Nakamichi amp and McIntosh speakers for mid and high, Prestige amp and Rockford Fosgate 12" for low) the quality is just a bit better than the stock TSX.
