Does anyone know the mounting depth of the stock components.

I'm wondering what the maximum mounting depth is for the front components in the '01 CL-S. I just ordered a set of Infinity Kappa components and I wonder if I need to make a baffle plate or any other modifications to get them in the doors.

Thanks in advance...

Hey Kix, just seeing if you got your Kappas installed yet....I'm looking into the Infinitys as well and had the same questions about mounting them in the stock locations. Fronts and rear.

Were you able to successfully install the “Infinity, Kappas”? If so, which model and size did you put in? And did you replace the factory amp?

Still waiting..

This weekend (June 2nd) is when I'll do the installation. I'm planning to replace all of the speakers, add three 2-channel amps (I had them before), and a 12" sub. I'll post component details in my signature when I'm done. I'll keep you posted on the degree of success of this venture.

Hey I just ordered Kappas to replace all the speakers in the car myself. Hopefully I'll get them by the end of the week and start on the install this weekend as well.

I was hoping that someone could answer this question also. The speakers that I want to fit in the doors need 2-1/8" of depth so I am hoping that the baskets that hold the 6 1/2' speakers now have at least 2 1/2" inches that way I know for sure the speakers will fit.

Well, if this helps any....I did a very quick measurement of the depth of the door speakers/brackets when I took the doors off one night (just to get an idea)...and from my rough measurement with a ruler I got 2 & 1/4 inches of depth within the spkr bracket. So 2 & 1/8" deep speakers should be fine. Upon examining the plastic bracket...if one were to cut the backing away, I'd say you could get another 1/4" of depth without hitting the glass when it's rolled down. I'll try to post some exact measurements when I get my new speakers myself. Again, this was a "rough" measurement that I took, but should be a pretty good idea of what we're dealing with.

The results on my Infinity Kappas install: So far, as I'm still finishing up the install, the Kappa 2-way 6x9s drop into the rear stock locations. Except the one on the rear driver's side needs a small spacer to keep it from rubbing the trunk lid bracket that's directly beneath it. The 6.5" 2way components up front need the factory speaker brackets' back cut out. This frees up the depth just enough to accomodate the Kappas. The tweeters fit in the stock locations well, without any of the included mounting brackets. The factory tweeters are fastened in their pods by screws. So you'll need some form of adhesive to fasten down the Kappa tweeters. This will ensure they don't rattle when you open and close the doors. The nice thing is the crossovers are small enough that there's various spots inside the door where you can mount them. I'll let you know how they sound once I get it powered up.

I did my install this weekend. for the 6.5's I used the factory baffles and added a spacer plate between the baffle and the speaker. For the tweeters I stuffed the sail panels with polyfil and used hot-melt glue to hold them.

The speakers sound great. I had to use a couple of ground loop isolators to cut out the noise, but once I did it was perfect. I used Infinity Kappa 60.2cs components. I plan to post a detailed description of my installation, with pictures, after I get the sub box fastened down and figure out how to post pictures.

what did u use as spacers for the speakers? do they sell these at audio stores or can i just use washers or something similar to put between the speaker and the plastic basket in the door?

I used some scrap plastic from my job. 0.5" thick plywood, particle board, or MDF should do. I used the 6.5" speaker grill as a pattern and cut the exact same hole size and pattern as the grill. This gives the best flexibility for match the stock hole pattern for mounting.

Scosche also sells a universal speaker spacer. I don't know how well it fits, though.
