I have a '00 TL that has an HU that has a hard problem reading CD's. If the CD is dirty, marred at all, or burned from my computer it may take 30 seconds for the HU to read it if at all.

I have bought my daughter a $15 CD player that plays a CD great. I put that same CD in my pricy Acura TL and the HU won't even read the CD. If it does read it, it skips or takes 10-30 seconds to read the track before it plays.

I also have problems reading ANY CD's that have been burned from my computer. Again, a $15 CD player will play the burned CD fine, but NOT in the CD in my high-end Acura.

I have read other threads on this topic in this forum. It seems the only solution is to clean the CD player. I have done this, and this will improve the quality a little bit - for a limited amount of time. But even then there are several CD's that will play well on a $15 player that won't play in the car.

There is a thread that talks about updating the '00 HU with a 6-disc changer '02 HU.

So my question is this - Does the new '02 HU/CD changers do a better job of reading CD's?

$350-$500 is a little pricy for me to update from a single CD player to a 6-disc changer. But if the update will allow me to read CD's as well as a $15 CD player - I am game !!!
