Disconnected my 6X9s

Yeah so today i tried disconnecting my rear Alpine 6X9 speakers that play full range sound because i replaced the stock amp. And my system sounds much better i think. I don't have to put the fader like +5 any more to make it feel like the sound is coming at me from the front, which is how i like it. So i think i'm going to removed those 6X9s completely and replace those rear door speakers with some Mb quartz like i have up front. the position of those 6X9s is such that it just seems to pull the sound stage towards the back big time. i guess this is one of those situations where less (# of speakers) is more. i wish i could have two sets of mid ranges in my front doors though and some tweeters in the center of the dash. that would be sick.

Hey, I'm not gonna yell I told you so, cause I'm just happy you tried it. Even if you would have said they sound better hooked up, I would still be happy that you at least tried it. WHere's the big thumb smiley. Ah! there.

What tweeters do you have in the dash? If you try a set that plays lower freqs, it might round out the system a little better... Eldude knows of a set that plays low, he talked about them in another thread...So maybe he can throw in some input here..

Welcome to the other side, jigga!

The Alpine set I have is the SPX-F13M. Apparently they have a different tweet than the other X-type speaks - it's in a tuned cast aluminum chamber (that's right, a sealed box for a tweeter!)

They throw voices up in the windshield like you wouldn't believe.

Anyway, the last of the SPX-F13M 5.25 and SPX-F17M 6.5 are on onlinecarstereo right now for screaming deals. They are last years models.

Congrats Jigga. Not surprised by your discovery. The stock 6x9s were originally only to deliver low frequencies (act like a sub) which are non-directional. By modifying your setup and sending full range signals to the 6x9s you now had 4 speakers behind you producing full range sound (directional) and you had to compensate for that by fading +5 forward to balance it out.

now by disconnecting my 6X9s is there a way to send more power to the rear door speakers?

Not to hijack the thread but I just changed out my x9's for the Alpines. My question is...how do you know what wire (I took the factory connector off) to the speaker's connectors? Does it matter? Its not like homespeaker with red/black

This is a good reason to use the Metra Honda speaker adapters (available from autotoys). Honda wires are so freakin' short now, they really do help.

There are two approaches. 1 is to make sure you use the wire in the same position on both sides for (+) (thus making sure that the two speakers have the same polarity). Look at your cut-off plugs to see which goes where. This might sound fine, often does, always a crap shoot - let'snot get into the difference between PHASE and POLARITY, boys and girls.

If you want to make sure they ALL have the same polarity, find one of the many threads around here with scans of the factory amp diagram (do a search) and you will find wire colors on the diagram. That's your punishment for hijacking the thread.
