diff between 2ohm and 4 ohm sub?

i had 4 ohm L7's in my car originally but both woofers kept blowing so i decided to just by a new amp and woofers instead of getting them replaced now that i actually have some moeny...question is tho, i got a new 2ohm woofer that they sent as a replacement...should i go buy another 2ohm?...im not sure what the difference is between 2 and 4...streeteffectZ oringinally told me to get a 4 when he first installed the L7's....but since i got a 2ohm repoklacenment im thinking of just buying another 2ohm...i plan on running a mono amp is that makes a difference... thank

I was going to post an answer, but I know elduderino's answer will be much better than mine so I gave up...

I will say you will need a serious amp to run two 2 ohm subs.

Do you mean you got the 2 ohm L7? The L7's are dual vc. It all depends what amp and how much power you want to feed the subs.

From what I understand ohms measure the resistance for a current to pass.

The lower the #, the less ressistance.

IE- 2 ohm has less resistance than 4 ohm.

Less resistance = more power.

Which amp did you have again? If you get another dual 2 ohm, you will only be able to run at 1 or 4 ohm STEREO, and 2 or 8 ohm MONO. What you run depends on your amp, I don't remember the model you had.

The difference between 4 ohms and 2 ohms is two ohms. Next question?

There is no sonic or performance diff among 2, 4, or 8-ohm woofers, or between single and dual voice coil woofers. The only reason there are different kinds is so you can set up YOUR amp to put out max power into YOUR speaker setup.

Mono amps usually want to see 2 ohms.

Stereo bridged amps usually want to see 4 ohms bridged.

Best way to get 2 ohms is two 4-ohm voice coils in parallel. You could also have four two-ohm voice coils in series-parellel (Dual vc woofs have two vcs per woof).

Best way to get 4 ohms is to have two 8-ohm vcs in parallel. You could also have two 2-ohm vcs in series (some of us avoid series) or four 2-ohm vcs in series parallel.

I used to be a dj and it's all about the ohms. More ohms equates to less power but better sound. I suggest working with stereo, not mono, at least at high wattage, mono jsut sounds crappy but then again, everything I kno is with things at 500+ watts. haha, that was a meaningless post

I say, go with higher ohms and stereo.
