DICE i-Honda-R3/R4 Ipod Installation (2006 Acura TSX non-Navigation)

I had a lot of difficulty understanding what to buy, and how to hook up the Dice i-Honda-R3/R4 Ipod Unit.

I installed this unit in a 2006 Acura TSX with a Non Navigation Head Unit.

Please note that I decided to discontinue my XM service, and in order to get Ipod text on my head unit, I installed my unit so that it replaced my XM service and fully disabled my XM tuner.

The manual that comes with the Dice unit explains how to set the dip switches to achieve this setup.

There was no need to disconnect the XM tuner in the trunk because I left the XM tuner cable disconnected in-dash.

The photos are hosted on google picasa and include captions that explain what I did/how I did it.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to post here, and I will do my best to answer them.

Nice work! And you're right, in cars WITHOUT navigation you can leave the XM unplugged from the radio harness instead of digging in the trunk for the XM tuner.

Anyone know if you can stop the text scrolling on the TSX Factory Radio from the Dice unit?

I did read it, but I didnt see anything. But since you said its there... I'll re-read it. Sometimes you read a little harder if you know the answer is there somewhere.

Thanks!

so this also lets you use your steering wheel controls for your ipod? also, if you choose to keep your xm, how do you switch between the two? Will you also get scrolling titles if you choose to keep it?

thanks for the help, been looking to do the same for my 06 non-navi

Yes, Steering Wheel Controls work perfectly fine with this setup.

If you choose to keep XM, you will use your AUX source for your IPOD, and continue to use XM1 and XM2 for your Satellite.

If you choose to keep XM, you will NOT get IPOD text on your factory head unit. AUX does not support text. Only XM source does. Hence the reason I decided to discontinue XM and use that source for my IPOD.

Thanks! good to know. i dont really need the scrolling text (i guess i know most of my music, ha!). i just really wanted to use my steering wheel controls to switch tracks etc.

so the install would be the same exact except for pluggin in the xm into the spare plug?

oh, where can i get one??? lol. Exactly what i want to do...seems so easy to install!

Correct. If you have the factory 8 or 6 disc changer in the trunk it will need to be disconnected. You in-dash changer is not affected at all.

Thank you so much for posting this! I was wondering about the ease of installation and this looks like it is just as easy as the installation I did with the Neo iOn in my 2005. I have a 2007 now and I'm hoping it will look just the same as the 2005 and 2006 if I decide to go with this.

Did you just leave the DICE unit behind the bin I assume? It looks great.

I have a dumb question. Is there a trick to drilling through the plastic to prevent it from cracking? I'm not really handy with a drill and I'm afraid of cracking the bin.

Use a sharp drill bit. The plastic is a PC/ABS blend that's heavy on the ABS, so it machines/drills very easily. You won't crack it.

If anyone getting this unit is in Socal, they do on-location installs that are fast and fairly priced...

This installation is no harder than hooking up a DVD player to your TV. Seriously easy.

Just to clarify...for myself even though it has probably been discussed a brazillion times:

I can keep XM by hooking the Dice set-up to to AUX input behind the dash?

If so, this means the AUX input in the center console is no longer usable? (no big deal)

You factory installed AUX input should still work. And, yes, the DICE kit plugs into the underside of your radio. It's installed the same no matter if you plan to keep XM or not.
