Diamond Audio Rocks!!!

Hey everybody-- I wanted to share my recent experience with Diamond Audio Corp.

I bought the M661 components, and wasn't really happy with metal dome tweeters. I wrote the company an email, and they told me that I could switch to silk tweeters for free at my authorized retailer. My local shop said they wouldn't do it because they weren't stocking DA products anymore, so I wrote the company back again. They're shipping me new silk tweeters direct from the factory!

I can't say enough about how professional and generous this company is!

nice......Looks good.

BTW, what size spacers did you need to use?

Also, sound dampen those doors and they will sound even better.

It's a piece of 3/4" plywood.

Yeah, that's what everybody is telling me--use dynamat or something. When the new tweeters arrive and I have to take the doors apart anyway I'll put some on.

Yeah, I was pretty surprised to get that level of service! It's been a long time since I've seen a company offer that kind of customer service. Wish more companies took care of their customers like that.

My new tweeters arrived today! Diamond shipped them Monday as promised.

Took about 20 minutes to open up the doors and get them installed.

I'm gonna wait until I've played them for a few hours before I really crank it to see how they sound at high volume.

My initial response (at moderate volume) is that they're definitely not as bright as the metal domes. So, at normal volumes (what other people like I suppose) I think I would prefer the metal. BUT at the volumes I usually listen at, I'm pretty sure the silk domes will be much smoother.

More later after I've had a chance to hear them for a day or so...

Okay, I've been listening to them at good volume for a week now. I decided they've been broken in enough to really crank them. So far they sound absolutely incredible and haven't distorted one bit.

I had a touch of sibilance, but I looks like it's actually coming from my MP3s and/or the mp3 player. I don't see it with regular CDs.

Tomorrow I'll increase the gain on the amp and give them even more power. Sooner or later I should be able to detect a little distortion. Not that I'm looking to fry 'em or anything--a little distortion is a good indicator that you're at the limit. (These are 170 watt speakers).

Turns out that the soundwaves inside the door cause the speakers to sound bad before they distort. In any case, they play louder than I'll ever need them to inside an automobile.
