controlling amp gain from driver's seat

Ok, I know I'm going crazy here.

I remember looking through the forums this week and I saw someone with a little knob built into the dash which controlled the gain of the amp.

Anyway, I would like to be able to do that for my amp (damn MP3s music vary too much in volume/quality)

I think I've seen this little device at Circuit City, but my question is can this work knob thing work on any amp? or is it for a specific brand?

PAC makes one (I think its an LD-1) that can control any amp. It has rca inputs and outputs. I have one that I haven't even opened and I may be selling it in couple of weeks pending an upcoming install.

That should work, I don't know if it has any electronics in it, but if it does it may add noise. Other that that it sounds good. You could also make one with stuff from radio shack.

Variable resistor... AKA dimmer knob

or how about a potentiometer with a logarithmic taper.

this is what I meant by "stuff"

My amp came with the bass control know adjuster. Well worth it if you can get an adapter to work.

a bass boost and gain control are two different things. A gain control knob is not a volume control! Your going to want to control your bass like some others have mentioned like vector not your gain. If you don't have a hookup like that on your amp than unfortunatly your s.o.l.

Alpine makes a universal that just uses rca's in and out. I have it on my car for my integrated sub. plus it mounts from behind for a custom look.
