does it go as far as compustar? thats the main feature I like about the compustar well I mean above other two-ways.. the shop around here tried to tell me autopage was better... notanyway yeah I'd be willing to come up there lol even though I'll be spending the difference in hotel and gas

Well, from the compustars I have had at the shop, not one of them had a very far range of activating distance. Now I don't know if this is because of my surroundings or not, but distance was just the same as the rest.

hmm... well I was hoping compustar actually had the range it claimed to have.. (anybody with compustar have comments?) if it doesn't then I might just have the shop here put autopage in that way I have the dealer to go back to if theres a problem and I won't have to travel so far.. any opinions on autopage? anyway .. yeah I'm not done with you yet though street.. I want a few changes in my console although I'm not sure how much that costs and when I'll do it depends on how much it costs

I had the CompuStar SSAS, but it doesn't have nearly the range it claims to. In fact, it had a tendancy to be a little fickle about things. In some areas, it would go a a couple hundred feet, other times it would respond if I was standing next to the car. Can't say much for the Viper, but I can guarantee that you won't get even close to the 1/4 mile range it advertises.

Three Wheelin'
My compustar works from up to 1/2 mile away in normal suburban conditions. Its range is limited however when i park it in NYC. Not surprisingly, all the tall metal buildings effect the peformance, as i would suspect with any other brand of remote. BTW, The antenna is mounted up inside at the top of the windshield behind the solar tint of the glass so its barely visible from outside.

I got the Viper 790XV, which has the remote start and the 2 way remote. Gotta say that it performs much better here than the CompuStar SS I had before. It's a lot more responsive and the range is more consistent. We've got a bunch of power lines, but it works pretty well, I would say about 500-1000 feet or so depending on power lines, etc. I guess I just had a ton of bad luck with the CompuStar, but I have to admit that I'm happier with the Viper. The only thing I would have added to the remote is a back-light, which the CompuStar had.
Had mine installed at StreetEffectz. No fuss, no muss, will definitely be doing more business with them in the future both my TL and Jeep.

Turns out I didn't read the manual well enough, the remote does have a backlight that you just have to 'enable' via the programming mode on the remote. It's not a great backlight, but it doesn the job.
