JL Audio Evolution XR components or Alpine Typr R's

If you had them, what are your likes/dislikes??

IS JL the same thing as JBL?

 

JL is not the same thing as JBL and JL xr are better speakers than the Type Rs.

i believe alpine x series components (SPX-177a) are cheaper than the JL xr...i think? I'd go with the spx ones. you can find them for around 230-250 brand new on ebay.

 

THe SPX are way ahead of the JL XR in my opinion. When I did my final system 2 years ago I auditioned 4 sets of speakers

The overall all sound with the same power on alll the speakers sounded the same. But its when you start listening closely you notice the differ. I am anal on getting all the same speakers in my car. My first choice was the QSDs but I need alot more power probally 2 JL 300/2 one for the front and the other amp for the rear. So my second choice was the Alpine SPX and still 2 years later they still sound awesome. NO regrets. The differ bewteen the spx 177a and 177r is that the 177a use a soft dome tweeter and the 177r use a ring radiator. Ring radiator have a tendancy to have a much higher freq range I think all the way up to 60,000hz and the soft dome on the 177a up to 30,000hz. But that really dosnt bother be casue the human ear does not hear anything above 20,000hz. Hope this helps.

 

Between the XRs and the Type Rs...XRs hands down. Haven't listened to the type x Alpines, but for that kind of money you caould get into a JL ZR or Focal KP...both of those will be tough to beat.
