RL: Which components do you recommend?

What's your budget, how much power do you have, and what do you listen to mainly? These three questions will help us suggest other brands that are much better than those 2 in terms of components.

Sounds like you need an ACTIVE setup to me. That JL 300/4 is active-capable.
How much depth do you have in the doors? And where is the tweeter going? I haven't played with the RL. The TL I have, I installed an active setup w/ the tweeters in the A-pillar, the stage turned out right on point.

Loud and bright sounds like Massive RK6. But they are big-ass drivers, won't fit in some doors. That's why I need to know how much depth is avail. Active Pro or semi-pro (long-throw efficient) would work. Also wasn't there a sale on LPG tweeters for only $18 recently?

exodus mid=84db efficient. It's gonna take juice to get those moving. GREAT speaker, though.
Now, if he can bridge his 300/4 and get another amp, i'd get them.
I'm gonna say 18sound 6nd430
http://www.eighteensound.com/index.a...roduct&pid=243
or
B&C 6ndl38
http://www.bcspeakers.com/product.php?id=56
The b&c will fall flat on it's face, though around 90-130hz

OK well active, I'd go with
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=295-374
So I went and looked at pics of your interior, take the A-pillars and install these:
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=264-865
And set your amp up so front channels run tweeters, rear channels run woofers, and set crossovers so highpass front is somewhere around 2.25kHz-3kHz, and do the woofer with a bandpass of the matching highpoint.
Id either do that, or put JBL GTi's in, or Massive Audio RK6
http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/...mps-co-ax.html for the massives
And GTi's are everywhere on ebay.

Im at the same boat here but in a 2G TL, Same JL Audio 300/4 actually running all x4 Kicker KS65 (6-1/2) kinda overpowered but Gain was carefully adjusted.
Sub is a Single JL Audio W6v2 with a SLASH 500/1v2
My budget is around 250-300 bucks could do 350 but not more for the front Speakers only of course.
Main Music: Alternative, Rock, Pop, Metal, Soul, Rap (Sometimes), Oldies (lol Led Zeppelin-IronMaiden-Such) really normal Music nothing with big bass or anything like that, Really like to apreciate those little hidden sounds in music kinda guy.
Hope my Budget isnt too low if so Ill have to wait till xmas to save up a little more.

I do think active may not be the right approach to someone who isn't familiar with crossovers, slopes, and the like. I could see him crossing the tweet low and watching it go poof.
if i were him, i would get a component set then ditch the crossovers when i felt more comfortable to tackle a true active setup on my own.

Thing is...when you have the amp that can do it... I recommend doing it. I don't know of any passive crossover set that can play as loud as clean as an active setup, because those crossover boxes saturate quickly, and compromises (no zobel for instance) in the crossovers to save cost are obvious. Another issue is that, when the speaker heats up, its crossover point CHANGES! Not with an active setup.

I just gave you one!
Its not complex, its that you have OPTIONS! You have many, many options.
If you want simple,
IMO, just order the Massive RK6 from DAT, bridge 'em for power, http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/...s-co-ax-2.html
And deaden the living hell out of your door because these are hard-hitting components and they are heavy duty. I hope they fit!

The speakers I picked for you totaled ~$115 and were a significant upgrade. The RK6 were $180. Both of which smoke the C5, all else equal (install, deadening, etc.) C5's sell for around $300'ish unless we're talking used or obvious gray-market (and I think $300'ish is "slightly gray-market" as it is) You could have purchased what we are talking about, and had enough to buy a second amp or deaden and seal up the entire car properly.

Were $180? I saw $220 and shipping. I get my audio from an authorized dealer so its not gray-market. BUT, i'll order them and test both to see if your right. Let me know how to get them for that price and i'll pick them up.

Just ordered my pair of RK6 Comps, when they come in i'll try to post some pics. Eggyhustles i'll let you know if your right about the sound LOL

Remember, a deadened, well sealed door is REQUIRED to get the right sound out of a car door. Also make very sure your phase (polarity) is correct as you go. Without these considerations, you won't notice a thing.

But its hard to tell someone to buy new equipment when their current equipment is A: free compared to buying anything and B: they are pleased w/ what they got.
So I feel you.
If it helps, I'm an Acoustic Elegance whore.

Best budget setup: Phoenix Gold RSD Components, the tweeters are a bit bright though.
I also have enjoyed listening to the Alpine SPX and Pioneer Premier TS-C720PRS components.
I personally have been building my own DIY setups these past years. I currently am running Phoenix Gold RSD 6.5" mids and Seas Neo Aluminum tweeters (via an active crossover).

If you do decided to go the DIY route I suggest you look into some nice mids and tweeters from Dayton Audio, Peerless or Seas. Mach5 Audio also make awesome mids. They are suppose to be home audio speakers but they sound amazing in a car audio enviornment.
