Hi: I recently had my car at the mechanic for an alternator replacement. When i went to use the stereo after picking it up, the audio system would not play with the anti-theft light flashing. (Acura 3.0CL 1997).

I don't have the car manual, or i would have referred to that. Currently there is a err-3 code on the display.

Can anyone help me?

You need to get the code to re-activate your stereo. There are 2 ways to do this. 1. there's a card that should be in your owners manual with the code on it. 2. Pull the stereo, find the serial number and call a dealership. Since you don't have the owner's manual, I doubt option 1 is possible. That means you get the fun of ripping the entire dash apart to pull the stereo. I believe Klepto posted a how-to in the 1st gen section about removing the radio in a 97. I'd help you out, but I have a 98 and our dash's are a lot easier to deal with. Hope that helps.

 

thank you mattastick. I have the code, and the display reads err-3 but it won't take the code? please don't tell me i don't have to take the dash apart!! now what do i do?

 

That's a good question... When I unhooked my battery for the first time, I was removing the factory radio to put in an aftermarket one... I don't know all the specifics of the 97's dash, but from what I've heard, it's not nice to deal with. The 98's on the other hand is very simple to take out, and I can have mine out in about 5 minutes.

Edit: There's a guy in the 1st Gen CL section that knows a ton about the factory stereo. I can't remember his username, but there should be a thread in the main section (probably a couple pages back) where he posted a lot of good info. Try PM'ing him. He might be able to help...
