I thought that it was determined that a non-navi couldn't be converted to a navi due to wiring or something like that

Good luck, hopefully you can pull it off and prove me wrong.

Of course it's not impossible, I think everyone just wants a parts list to see what's invloved...With a parts list, then cost can be determined....

Looks cool. If you can, try to document as much of the procedure as possible. If it works out I might even try it.

I say go for it man!
You'll be the pioneer of the Non-Navi to Navi conversion and you will go down in Acura-tsx.com history as one of the greats!

Dayum! I was thinking about doing the same thing. I didn't think I'd have a problem with wiring the DVD rom to the unit, but I don't know how I'd do with getting the voice commands to work. Did you get the part for the steering wheel with the button for voice-command?

Where you gonna put the GPS antenna? does the dvd player do the calculations as to which road you are on or is that function built into a separate "cpu" type of module? Good luck

I got Navi - didn't know the non navi guys didn't have the little display above the vents - that is all I ever look at when driving - it's uber useful.

BTW - where did that picture come from? I've got the same interior but my steeing wheel volume/channel/cruise buttons are silver?

It probably came from the Acura website as the 05 models have illuminated buttons on the steering wheel.

I will definitely do the Navi conversation. I've just been too scared to try and figure it out on my own. Please keep posting updates! When are you going to start trying to put things together?

Here are the steering wheel controls: controls

i already noticed that im going to need #6 from that list as well which is the the SUB-WIRE, CABLE REEL

which has the plug for the steering wheel controls with the navi plug

i doubt that the non-navi version just has this plug just sitting there but who know maybee that would be bad ass

would be bad ass if acura would only make one set of harnesses and the plugs they dont use for the non-navi let them hang there. that would be so much easier

Good luck man, it's quite an undertaking but it's always really exciting when they pan out!

Let us know how it works.

Yeah I think you're right it's probably not just sitting there unplugged. I doubt they would just leave plugs hangin there unused. This would look really bad on their end to just have unplugged harnesses hanging everywhere. I've never seen anything like that it taking apart the TSX. I have non navi and I have removed the factory radio completely.

One big difference I seem to remember is that there are 4 plugs on the back of the Navi head unit versus 3 on the back of the non-navi headunit.

Check this out. This is from the OEM car kit install instructions. Let me know if you need these. You should be able to google for them though. PM me your email if you want me to send it to you though.

Damn, that'll be a crazy conversion. There's probably going to be a lot of time and stress over that though. Don't you think it was just worth paying the extra $2000 at the time to get the Navi instead of the installation and countless hours of research for the swap?

None the less if it works I'm down to do it too. Just too chicken to be the first to try. Good luck!

Well I know for sure that there are wiring differences between the nav and the non-nav. one being the VSS wire in the nav the wire is present in the car computer in the non nav the wire is not there. so as far as there being a connector in the trunk hidden there is none I have looked. and it makes sense because the wires are not present in the computer. Now when I was adding the VSS wire I just stuffed the wire in, and that worked for that because it was one pin. as for you conversion you are going to have to add more. So I am going to give you information that I hope will help. the connectors that plug into everything are AMP connectors and pins. so I thought that I could call Allied Electronics (I get all my AMP stuff from them I am the electronics business and use the stuff all the time) and simply order a box of pins. Well when they searched the part numbers that said that AMP automotive connectors where a separate division and they could not get the parts. so it brings me to my the point of this post, that you should look into the AMP automotive division because you could buy the connectors and pin to make any missing wiring very cheep.

I am very impressed when people undertake projects like this. Nothing is impossible and people that say it is are just to lazy or not smart enough to do it. and as far as cost. even if it costs you more then the 2gs it will be worth it in the end because you will have the feeling that you did it and may be the first one to do it.

good luck on you project and keep us up to date with photos
