CD-Rs in 04/05 TSX

Hey Gang:

While the BOSE stereo in my '99 TL rocked... It was a total nightmare when it came to burned discs. To date, I'm only able to use a certain antiquated brand of Maxell discs/media.

My question: Has anyone had a problem using burned discs in the TSX... I mean, can they basically use any brand of discs? Is the track jumping seamless?

The TL could never find the track or it would take forever between songs. What a hassle!!

Thnx in advance!

Anthony

What kind of problems? Discs not playing?

Why can't Acura or BOSE get this right. I mean, my 96 TL played anything you put in it!!!

Bose does not make or develop head units. They do amps and speakers only. Alpine, Pioneer, and Panasonic are suppliers to Honda, and I don't know who made the HU (I think Pana made the CD transport guts from what I hear, but I think that the Nav HU is Alpine and the non-Nav is Pioneer. Pioneer made the amp and speakers in this case...)

Because of how far out an OEM has to schedule production of their HU's, they usually use things like CD transports and decoder chips that are a bit out of date. They have to spec what is current when the system is designed, and can't change horses in midstream.

Keeps the aftermarket in business.

I use Maxell (burned on Plextor Premium) and they tend to skip - need to play around with different burn settings and speeds to see if it helps. Could just be my HU sucks.

Maxell CD-R works for me. Just remember not to put a stick-on label on them (a sharpie is better). The labels may come off in the heat and jam the mechanism.

No problems here with CD-Rs in either my TSX or my family's TL. I've used TDKs, Imations, and Memorex. All seem to work fine.

i dont know if its my navi system or the way i burn my cd but i also have problems... i usually burn my cd at the speed of 48x and i use fujifilms cd. when i skip through the tracks it wouldnt play tracks after 10 so i dont know what it can be? o yea i use nero 5 burnin rom program... should i slow down the write speed? or change to a different brand of blanks... i thought about taking my car to a dealer and have them check it out but i thought it was only because of the cd and i burnt it to fast.. i havent tried another cd brand or slowing the burn speed yet.. any ideas of how this is happening... again the disc wont play after track 10 if i skip through the tracks too fast but it will play if i listen to the cd rom track 1 through whatever.... thanks alot

I have had issues with CD-Rs - most work just fine, but sometime it isn't happy with the higher tracks and stops working.

i had my cd changer changed twice already.
the dealer told me that it was because the cd changer is not supposed to use burned cd's. They said that different cds have different thicknesses. Makes sense, but i dont know, i've never really heard anyone else with this problem. I don't use the stock cd changer anymore, got the eclipse unit that is nasty.

Burn speeds shouldn't really matter anymore if you're using new-ish hard/software, everything has buffer underrun protection and stuff now a days...

I agreed with jcg's call. I was refering to what the dealer told you about the changer breaking because of using burned CDs which have different thicknesses. If they do the differences are negligible and have absolutely no detrimental impact on your CD player. As you can see by the replies here, and in other similar threads, the changer works with CD-R without a problem.

Yes, I think you are lying about having it changed

No, the dealer is full of It should be able to play burned CDs just fine.

No, I'm saying burn speed "shouldn't" be a factor. I would look at burner software settings, if you have a fairly modern computer and burner, say less then 3 years old. And if various media brands produces the same results.

Oh yeah, that was my other comment, historically CD-RWs play better then CD-Rs in regular players, although I have not tried any CD-RWs in the TSX, I'd assume they play fine.

I have had no problems with CDRs at all. I heard if you try to put labels on the CDRs then they can get F'd up in hot weather.

Other than that I'm using..memorex/staples(cheap) CDRs all day...everyday

No problems here either! back in the days (2 years ago) .. burn speed was a factor. But not anymore, or it shouldn't be becuase i haven't had any problem so far. Knock on wood.

I've had the same problems also... mostly w/ maxell CD-Rs. But then, when I bought a new CD (Eminem's Encore), it did the same thing for a little while. I don't know if its the CD player or just the CDs, but I'm getting some new CD-Rs soon and seeing if the other brands do anything different. Weird...

I still have probs with most burned cds and even some original cds. I think my HU is screwed up - but not so bad that I've gotten off my lazy arse to take it in :-) Prob see what the dealer says when I take it in for my first oil change this month (along with the obligatory rattle seek and destroy mission).

I'm still having problems w/ some original CDs too... I'm just going to take it back in and demand it be changed along w/ the money they will be giving back to me for the camber kits I bought for the camber problem in the back.
