Car's done check the pics

I'm done tinkering for now. I'll probably get bored in a month or so and who knows what I'll do next. Take a look and be gentle with me.

Make sure to see page 4 for the 5 stitches I got trying to cut the plastic housing off the inside of the door panel so it wouldn't rub against the ID mid. I was holding the panel steady with my left hand and cutting with my right hand. Next thing I knew, the door panel was spattered with blood and I had a nice football shaped cut in my left forearm. It looked like one of those Discovery channel situations...you know where you can see the "cheese" on the inside.

Anyway, I've only got left to mount the sub box better and get a grill for the IDMAX.

Everything looks great Bozz. I think the head unit and eq look really good. Sorry to hear about the accident. That had to smart. Question is, was it worth it? Do they sound incredible? Looks like all that is left for you is tyding up the trunk and you are set. Again, everything looks really good.

Much louder than expected. I have the gains on the amp turned way down since the IDMAX came with a warning about playing it at full volume until after at least a week's break in time. I figured I'd keep the amp gains low so there was no way I could push it too hard for that week. The problem is that it pounds like hell with the gains barely up. The first week is done so it's time to up the gains a little to see what else it can do. I'm guessing it's going to overpower my entire system. It's efficiency is remarkable as is it's SQ and SPL. I don't know what's going to happen when I give the gains a bump.

I'll let you know.

LOL, don't think I didn't think about that. Wood is cheaper and much easier to work with. At this stage of the game I'm not ruling that out since I'd like to explore the possibilities of learning "glass work"....but I just don't have the time to do it properly right now. This fvcking thing is pounding much harder than I expected. One 12 sounds like two and I haven't even tweaked it yet.

If it gets to that stage, I'll keep you posted.

Thanks dude. Yup, I have bonafide scars to show for my hard work! Did it hurt? Yes. It actually pissed me off more than it hurt since I had to stop what I was doing to go and get the damn stitches.

Was it worth it..........The clarity and depth of this system is nothing like I've ever heard. You have to hear it to believe it. I still have a bit of tweaking to do to even everything out...but I'm guessing that once I'm done this will be my best system yet. You've heard the 6.5 Chameleons so you know what they're cabable of. In a word - awesome.

As far as cleaning up the trunk goes, the velcro has been purchased to hopefully keep the sub box in place. I'll get a grill for it soon. The SQ and SPL of the IDMAX is more than I was ready for. ID definitely spent their time well when designing their speakers. Probably why I chose to use their speakers exclusively in my car!!

I hear things in songs that I never heard before. Maybe it's psychobabble but it's working for me.

I'll bet that IDMAX is awesome. I would love to go that route myself but, I do not know if 500 watts would be enough for it.

How hard was it to make the box Bozzz. I know the IDMAX is a very efficent sub at low volumes, are u gonna wire it at 1 ohm after it wears in. Today I went back to a single 12" to. I got a W7 and using my 500bd on it so its gettin around 450 watts and it dosnt sound so bad. I am waiting to sell the 500bd and get a 1000bd

I love the id max. I have one run by one an Arc audio cxl 2500 which is 1050 watts by one in a 4 ohm mono load. I bulit a free air setup with the front chamber of the speaker firing through the tunk pass through and it rocks. I should have some pix up here soon. Image dynamics makes great stuff. I went with focal polyglass components for the doors but as far as subs go I give image dyanamics a big thumbs up.

The box wasn't harder than any other box I've built. The one thing I did differently with this box is built a Y shaped support bracket on the inside to support the weight of the magnets. I could just picture this beast ripping throught the front because it is so heavy in the rear. I wish I had my camera with me when I built it so you could see what I'm talking about.

As far as dropping to 1 ohm, I don't see the need right now. At 4 ohms it's getting over 600W and is loud enough for me. I like a balanced sounding system. This baby can easily overpower the fronts/rears as is. I don't know what the hell would happen if I hit it with 1200W. I think the system would be all bass.

Thank you very much, I will chek it out and may order one because mine dash looks ugly like hell. It was great job that you had done to your car stereo system, but I felt bad for you because of the nasty cut on your hands. Anyway, great job.
Thanks again.
