TL: Capacitor or separate battery for subs?
Capacitor or separate battery for subs?
I'm looking to upgrade my subs to two 12in Alpine type R hooked to a Alpine 1000watt mono sub(something simple). What would someone with ample amount of experience suggest? Get a capacitor or use a separate battery? What are the pros and cons? I know people will have different opinions so I'm just looking for suggestions from facts and experience. Thanks.
Replace your underhood battery. 1 XS Power batt is more than enough to power that whole system, plus a 4channel (if you wanted) for your highs, and your car. Depending on your car, I'd run the biggest one you can fit. Hell, I cut my battery box to fit a bit bigger battery. But a D5100/D5100R would be able to power that system just fine. I know that easily fits in my 1st gen CL, and should have no problems under your hood.
Also, if you haven't bought the subs and amp yet, I would suggest other equipment...

Optima yellow top is a great alternative to an XS, I've had mine for 6 years, still going strong, I have 3 farrad caps for both my amps as well
Unfortunately, the quality of Optimas have dwindled drastically in the last 3 years or so.
OP, I would look into Deka Intimidator line. I got mine for $120 shipped.
