Are they burned as mp3s? If so try to burn them in as an Audio CD (if using iTunes). Can the CD play on a home CD player that does not play mp3s? If it does you migh try a different manufacturer of blank CDs. Sony or Phillips should be fine.

the single disc CD player that came with the 1999-2001 TL is notorious for having problems with burned CDs. There are unit to unit variations so changing the burning strategy or the type of blank CD-R will not always be a solution.

As delheat mentioned, you can install a headunit from a 02-03 TL or you can install an iPod adapter. I installed both of those in my 1999 TL. And third option is to install an aftermarket head unit.

I will not use burned cds in my 2002 TL-s again. Too many problems with them jamming and being a pain to eject. One time a burned cd would not eject...even with me poking at it with a small screw driver. I didn't want to make the situation worse so I took it to the dealer and he took apart my radio unit and got the cd out...without damaging the unit...even though he said he couldn't guarantee it. It cost me like $200 but cheaper than buying a new or rebuilt version. Besides I wanted to keep the stock look.

Even the dealer said these units don't work well with burned cds.

So if I want to listen to a burned cd...I play it through a portable cd player and run it through my tape deck with a connector. LOL. Cheesey but it works safely.
