Bypassing Video Lock on Alpine

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any clear instructions to bypass the lock on Alpine units that require the parking brake to be engaged to watch video on the LCD? I did a search and was kinda confused on the instructions. Is there a way to do this so I don't have to flick a switch everytime I start the car?

you have to deal with both the foot and emergency brakes. the foot brake needs to send a power feed back to the unit while the emergency brake feeds ground. so basically from the master unit, wire the emergency brake wire to a switch which is then grounded. the foot brake can be wired directly to the foot brake or to a switch which is then wired to 12v power.

so the way it works is...
- flip ebrake switch
- flip foot brake switch (a couple of times back and forth, i forget how many times)
- flip ebrake switch back
~> video!!!

the foot brake minimizes the amount of switches you have to install, but this means you cannot switch to video on the fly...you have to wait till you are stopped or in the process of stopping (if you are a daredevil! ).

How do you have a switch ground a wire?

well, the switch is ON/OFF so there will be two terminals on the back. wire the alpine wire to one terminal, and then ground the other terminal to the chassis.
