A bunch of pics from my double din HU install in an 01 CLS

Note that this is a silly story-type post, and has a ton of random pics in it, so it's not your usual install thread, but the guys on my site (and I) love to have a good time and make asses out of ourselves on the internet, so if you're scratching your head after reading this, I apologize.

The whole install process is here, which I won't post entirely because again, it's a LOT of pics.

The nutshell version is this:

This:

And this:

Turned out like this, using one of Travis's double din kits.

Cheers.

is that the 712 or the 812? I installed the DDX712 about a month ago, I love it!

812. I almost went 8120 but couldn't justify the extra scratch (and couldn't really afford it, haha). My plan is to get the nav unit for this in the spring and use the OEM nav screen for the Kenwood/Garmin nav and backup camera.

Love the unit as well, it's really nice. The only problem I have right now is that the correct programming for the SWI continues to evade me, because I can make all 3 steering wheel buttons perform a function, just not the functions I want them to be. :\ There's also quite a bit of latency (lag?) using the wheel controls.

Wow! That looks awesome! Good job! That's a perfect spot for mounting that antenna.
