Break in period?

Just installed the JL 500.1 and 10w7 set up 2 days ago and I have kept the sub at a reasonably low(for subwoofers) volume.

How long should I not bump the sub for?

I really want to turn the gain up, but need your oppinion on how long the break in period for a JL 10w7 is.

You have a mis-perception about break-in for a sub. It's not a gasoline engine. You have no reason NOT to bump it.

The break-in for a sub refers to the fact that after it plays for a while, the suspension (surround and spider) become more flexible, and arrive pretty close to the target compliance used by the maker in their speaker specs. When it's new, it's NOT performing at spec, it's actually stiffer and usually a bit one-note-bassier.

So your woofer will sound better as it breaks in - but it probably has a bit more power handing when it's new, from an excursion point of view (the voice coil and the electrical power handling ar eunchanged) and probably actually have a hair less excursion-related power handling after it's broken in... but not enough to worry about.

Turn it up, and get rid of your lame and stale location in your profile.

lame and stale? my location isn't a loaf of white bread. If your moms house is lame and stale, I can help out with that, but thanks for the info about my sub. Through the course of this week I'll progressively bump it louder.
This set up is killer.

My mom's house IS lame and stale, you dope. If you'd ever been there, you'd know.

And don't let my info on voice coils let you set up your gain wrong. For info on the right way to set it up, see the gain setting tutorial at jlaudio.com

Eld, You're now an official vendor!

Do you have a product list yet, or is it in the works?
