Bought an Infinity Basslink
Bought a brand new Infinity Basslink with LC remote off of eBay for $179. Circuit City still sells them for $300 and Crutchfield for $349 so definitely a steal. Will hook it up later this week and will post what I think of it.
Anyone else have a bass remote for their system? Where is a cool place to install the knob?

Yeah I have my remote in the same place for now. I ran the cable down the driver side kick panels and out from behind the hood release, then under the floor mat and next to the driver seat/center console. Will mount it somewhere else later, too tired tonight to finish.
Hey, did you (or anyone) have any engine noise after hooking up their amp? I'm thinking I need to try again with the ground. I'm using a wimpy 16 gauge wire and I mounted behind one of the seat bolts (middle one that holds the "seat back" in place) and scraped paint off the frame to make it touch metal.

This is great. I just entered the forum and was about to search for the infinity basslink because I was looking into getting one, and I saw this post right off.
I was looking into a powered sub because I wasn’t sure how long I was going to keep this car but I really wanted to beef up the low end. I looked at Crutchfield for the reviews and info, and to eBay for the price. I’m thinking of buying up one of these Infinity basslinks, so please, let me know all you had to buy to hook it up, and how to patch it in. I know you need a power cable, anything else? Crutchfield suggests a full kit for $30, but I know that includes everything you need for hooking to the HU, and I know that’s more than we need.
I have been looking around the forums and I see a lot of info about how to add a powered sub, but I wonder if I should tap the stock sub signal wires or just disconnect the sub altogether. Will the signal diminish if I’m using the same wires for 2 subs? Thanks all.

Without a doubt get on eBay and buy a Basslink with remote... my final bid price was $179... half the Crutchfield price and I don't think Crutchfield includes the Bass remote. As far as powered subs go, this one is much, much, much better than my 10" Bazooka tube (only had a 40watt amp driving it though).
It definitely adds the low bass that the stock system is lacking and sounds very good working with the stock system - not overpowering unless you open the ski pass-thru and crank the bass level all the way up.
I have engine whine right now and will diagnose that problem soon. I soldered the line level wires to a single RCA connector (BLU/GRN(+) to center electrode & ORN/BLU(-) to the outer shell) and then split the one RCA to two and connected to the Basslink. I kept the stock sub hooked up and it sounds fine. Like I said, I somehow introduced engine noise from my setup (only noticeable at very low volume), so I need to figure out what is causing it. I did run my power wire and RCA's side by side from the back seat to the amp and even taped them together with electrical tape - could be the source of my engine noise! Not looking forward to taking the seats apart again, doh!
As far as the power wire, I pulled a 10 ga wire w/ 20amp fuse thru a grommet in the firewall. This was very easy...for me the rear seats were the most challenging. You might be able to find a full wiring kit for less than the $30 kit on Crutchfield.
I took some pics during the install and will post them tonight - stay tuned.

Update on the engine whine. Turns out the stock sub is buzzing. I unclipped the wiring harness and the engine buzz is gone. I wanted to keep the stock sub connected for additional mid-bass, but I really can't tell much difference with it hooked up versus not. So for now, I will leave it unhooked unless someone has a solution to the buzzing.

well you should be using a 8 gauge ground wire. also the speaker output rca lines should not be near the power wire. the audio shop did that to me. they said that lightning audio wires say its ok but its not. so i had to remove the rca wires and put them on the other side of the car from the power wire.

Thanks Stinkboy for the advice - I'll give it a try.

I was going to get a 8" Bazooka tube but I think I might have changed my mind. I may get this professionally installed but did you ever get rid of the engine noise with the stock sub connected? How low are the lows? I want an upgrade but I don't want to be heard a mile away either. Any feedback on your basslink is much appreciated. Thanks!
I've been really busy this week so I haven't separated the power & RCAs or regrounded with a beefier wire, but I got rid of the engine noise by unplugging the stock sub in the trunk. There were no other speakers affected by the engine noise and it sounds fine without the stock sub.
I would recommend the Basslink over a Bazzoka tube (so do others who hear them side by side). I have a 10" Bazooka in the other car with a 75W Alpine amp driving it and a smaller trunk to boot. Basslink blows it away and the remote control is awesome - I'm always fiddling with it and I turn the bass way down when the kid is in the car.
The owner's manual says it goes down to 20Hz and I believe it. The 200W RMS class D Infinity amp is loud and clean - enough to shake the seats and mirrors, but it's not going to be heard a mile away. For $179 on eBay you can't go wrong.
