It really depends on which models your talking about - Boston Pro's? vs. MB QUART D class? I had both and the Boston Pro's has a soft sound but clean! MB's D class are awesome but $$$$. Are you looking for slamming or a mild system? If you run alot of power and want to slam I would get the MB's and Pro's for a mild system.

I like them both also but if I would have to pick I would go with bostons. Their tweets sound alittle better and I don't care for how the quarts are set up for installing the tweeters.

Well I had both speakers... the Boston's in an Explorer, which I would rate a 9 and then the MB Quarts in my 5.0L which I would have to rate a 8.5... the highs in the Boston's were f'n fantastic! Maybe if my exhaust wasn't so loud in the 5.0L the Quarts would sound better.. (awesome quality on both so you can't go wrong!!)

Good Luck..

I still use Buston Pro 5 1/4's in my Montero. Those are old and they still sound great. The nice thing about Boston's are that they are under rated in their power handeling. Personally I thought that the MB Quarts were a little tinnie (?sp) sounding. But it all matters in what kind of music you listen to and how loud you like it. Beside, the Boston Pro Series have a great passive crossover. But it all comes down to personal opinions.

I choose MB because of their long standing kick ass mids and tweets. Boston is nice but I just have a thing for the crisp sound of the MBs........

if you wanna go all out high end, get dynaudio, diamdond, or focal utopias. mb quarts titanium tweeters are too harsh, and usually need a equalizer.

If by "too harsh" you mean "too much high end", I would say it might depend on the installation.

I have MB Quart separates for front speakers in both my cars: 2216CX's in my Integra coupe, and PSC216's in my TL. In the Integra, the tweeters were installed coaxially with the mid-range speakers ("on top of" each other in the same panel), and it was only slightly bright in sound -- all I had to do was turn the treble down one notch on the head unit and it sounded great.

For the TL, my installer put the mid-range speakers in the stock panels and mounted the tweeters higher "for better imaging", putting them in the door near where the side-view mirrors are. While the imaging is nice, the "MB Quart overtreble" effect was much worse. If I turned the head unit treble down enough for the highest frequencies I lost too much of the upper mid range.

Rather than spend a lot of time playing with speaker relocations and plugging holes in my doors as I went, I put a 1/2-DIN passive EQ in the useless CD tray location (I have a non-NAV TL) and cut down the two highest frequencies. Now it sounds great.

I really love the tone of the MB Quarts, especially for jazz and classical music, but next time around I may try Boston Acoustics, especially if I don't have a nice dash slot for an EQ.

well, mbquarts are nice speakers. but they will never rank with dynaudio, focals, and diamond. for the price of a component set with equalizer, you could of gotten any of the three i listed (just an example). i have dynaudio mkII260 in my nsx and love it, wats even better is the focal utopi that is going into the IS300.

I have some BA Pro Series 6.43 3way components in a box ready to get installed. I'm still debating on whether or not I should install them or sell them. How much is someone willing to give me for them? The retail brand new is around $900 or so.

BA Pro Series 6.5

I have boston Pro Series 6.5" front and back
let me tell you, the sound is AMAZING. great mids, BEST sounding highs. So many ppl have complimented my system's tweeter work, and mid/high transitions...

just make sure you have a powerful amp to push these babies.

Lets get one thing out of the way...all of you who LOVE focal speakers...better think again. One of my friends has a pathfinder...with focals (8 of them, ) and 4 alpine 12" subs...his speakers dont sound anything NEAR as good as my friends MBQUART Q's . FOcal speaker thump more....but the clarity is not even comparable. Boston makes good speakers...but they arent as good as the high end MBQUART. The q's are around 500 bucks a pair...im not sure how much the bostons are...but the MBQUARTS are worth their money. Also...MBQUART is one of the hardest speakers to blow. Focal on the other hand...blow a lot...my friend blew 3 speakers...AND THEY WERE ALL ABOUT 50 WATTS UNDERPOWERED!!!
Of all the shows I have been to, MBQUART always wins...except one time someone with JL AUDIO XR's (the closest thing to the Q')
won...
FOcals...also..retail for 900 dollars a pair (Utopias)
Thats wayyyyyyy too much for speakers that dont outperform their competition.

However...I will not say that Focals suck...I still think they are great speakers...just that I dont think they are worth the money...and personally...the sound quality is not quite as nice. But im sure you all know...that no matter what speakers you get...it all comes down to the relationship you have with your shop.. (in NYC anyways) If you dont know a shop...they will screw up the eq, and the system will sound like a 400 dollar system. Anywho...Id go for the MBQUART QM's or..if you want to have 98% of the quality...go with the JLAUDIO XR's.

Boston Acoustics vs MB Quarts

Really if you go Boston Pro's or MB Quart's you will be happy with your selection. Its all a matter of taste. Both have pros and cons, people have experienced different situations. I personally have the Boston Pros 6.4's in all corners and love them. Just make sure you give them a lot of clean power and they will give you the performace that you are looking for. Also the boston crossover has a -3 db attenuation for the tweeter. So if your highs are two bright you can turn them down.

I have never heard Focal's in person but I am sure you can't go wrong with them either. As for blowing any speaker, I have never blow one in my life. Its all about enough clean power. Distortion blows.

Now if you want TOP CLASS mids and highs go buy a set of Nautilus 805's by B&W. Take them apart and install them in your car, push them with a nice tube amp. That would be the ULTIMATE!!!!!
