Boston acoustics G5

I have a Boston Acoustics G512-44 and I am looking for an amp to power it. I was thinking either the 08Kicker750.1 for $240 or the Boston acoustics gt-28 for $360 I am on a pretty tight budget and want good sound quality with my stock bose speakers. I could definitely use the 100 dollars. Do you guys think the kicker should be plenty powerful to run that sub, or do you think that the gt-28 would sound alot better.

^the kicker should be plenty fine, it's got 750W RMS at 2ohms and the sub is only 450W RMS from what i've seen
or is there something i am missing here?
btw let me know how you like the g5, thinking of selling my w3's to pick up a couple of those....

I would go with the Kicker, and just watch your gain settings... Also, don't build your box any larger than is recommended... if you do, you will risk bottoming out the sub (which is a bad thing) due to overpowering and showing it less resistance than it should see from the box. Either way, should be a pretty interesting set-up. Be sure and post pics...

A 6" Optimus subwoofer will shake your rear view mirror.

yes, and why not just save your money and shake the mirror yourself? or just get one of those bass shakers and put it under your seat
also it depends on how heavy your mirror is, might wanna swap it out for a flimsy civic one or something

^who you calling a bedwetter? it was a new alarm clock and it scared the crap outta me when it went off in the morning, okay
ya with a single 12 you should feel it pretty good, especially with a quality woofer pushing 450W RMS. i've only had 2 12's in my cars tho, i just love that bass

woah woah there matt, first i need more amp power, then i could get better ones. But for the money required/extra strain on the car, doesn't make sense for me. Who says your setup is gonna be loud as fak anyways? hmmmm... i wonder if there is anywhere where i can get the decibels for my system tested, really interested in that.
And i was going for a smaller cheaper setup in the cl that still leaves the trunk very usable, that's why i'm going for the false floor. And that's why all the enclosure and amp tray only cost me $50, all professionally done before(enclosure has 6 layers of glass on it).
Damn you matt, now you got me thinking bout upgrading again, either to those w6's or g5's, and they're quite a bit more money from the w3's

I'm just giving you a hard time Mitch... Oh, and as for SPL testing, I'm looking to break into the 130 db range with my new set-up... should be a good time... I've been talking to a couple guys that have heard the woofer I'm getting, and they said it'll do 140's if I give it 2000rms, and put it in a fart box... not looking to do that, though, since this'll still be my daily set-up..

Where you at in Canada again? If you check out caraudioclassifieds.org, we're looking to have a get together/sound comp in Wisconsin area I think... Might not be too bad of a drive. And if you're looking to get metered, make sure it's on a TermLab meter...

^yeah i know, ppl have said mine is pretty loud, but i don't really think so, i need it a lot louder, but it's already taking up quite a bit of power from the poor cl so i dunno how much more it can take
i'm in Winnipeg, Manitoba. let me know where it's at, but i think it'll prolly be a long ass drive.
I'm gonna see if we are having any comps here in the summer. the audio scene has dropped off quite a bit, but i'm gonna ask around at shops and see if they got any equipment or know if there is any comp anymore

Dude, a couple of fairly cheap things you can do to significantly help out our aging electrical system: 1. Big 3 upgrade, and 2. Second, small battery in the trunk.
Explanations of above:
1. Upgrade the wire between the alternator + and battery +, and the 2 battery grounds. I ran 1/0 wire from the alternator + into the fuse box (with some modification to the plastic, of course) and then 1/0 in place of the factory grounds. This helps a ton...
2. I added a kinetik HC600. 600 amps from something about the size of your 1 farad cap... it's a little monster... I might be selling it in the spring, since I'll probably up the rear battery size so I can play the system with the car off for longer periods of time...

Let me know if you have any other questions about it, as I have pics of both (somewhere...)

I dont know what I want to do. I have never heard the g-5 in person. I am torn between that sub or a 15" alpine typre r with a boston acoustics gt-28. I want it loud but i also want it to sound good. Which setup would u guys choose. I have the stock bose speakers, do u think the 15 would completely drown them out?

^no i don't think it would, and FWIW i really like the sound of the g5, gets nice and low. If you have audio shops anywhere near by you should be able to hear both of those subs, as alpine should be carried by some of the bigger stores, while smaller specialized stores tend to carry the boston acoustics products

I wouldn't touch the Type-R with a 10 foot pole... I was thinking about getting a 10" type-r, but then I went and heard them... the only thing they are is loud and muddy... I really don't see why people rant and rave about how awesome type-r's are, when they sound like sh*t... there's a reason the type-r's are some cheap...

I'd buy something you've heard, or something suggested by someone's opinion you trust... or get a suggestion from someone, and go check it with a bunch of people who have the sub. That's what I did when I was looking for a sub for my upgrade... A guy suggested the AA havoc, so I went and talked to people that use them, and they all said the same thing as the guy trying to sell it to me...
