In summary, Verizon doesn't support Bluetooth. Maybe they will next year. Or maybe not...
Serveral people here are waiting for the V600, including myself, but it sounds like it won't be out 'til early next year.

The TREO 600 is NEW and the best phone around... it has everything....
www.handspring.com
It is now available for Sprint and Cingular, and soon T Mobile.. AT&T wireless coming and maybe Verizon.
Bluetooth??? NOOOO
NO Bluetooth... BUT it has an SD expansion slot, and SD Bluetooth cards with expandable memory also will be out before Christmas!

Be careful with the SD Bluetooth cards, they don't guarantee you can connect to the TL. I've yet to see a SD card that has the hands free profile. Most just allow interfacing with other PDAs and PCs. Don't go buy the Treo until you are sure the SD card will have hands free profile. Otherwise you've spent a lot of money on a phone/PDA that won't work with your car.
I think thats my future phone too. what sucks is I`m breaking the contract in the middle and have to pay $175 to terminate with Verizon, so its going to cost $225 to cancel and get the T616. As far as companies maybe Cingular with the rollover minutes.

I love the Treo 600 Bluetooth or not... I am sure Treo will add Bluetooth to the next phone they make!
What is a hands free profile?
MikeRadio
Handsfree profile is one of a set of protocols specified by the Bluetooth group (not to be confused with the Blue Man Group
) that dictates how the Bluetooth interface works for certain applications. In this case the handsfree profile specifies how a cellphone would communicate with the TL to allow the user/driver to not only receive the phone's audio, but to control the phone itself (place calls, transfer calls, etc.) and receive data from the phone (caller ID, signal strength, battery level). There is a "headset" profile too , but that just deals with audio headsets and not the control functions. That is the profile that is used by most Bluetooth phone headsets.
There are other profiles for data interchange between PDAs and computers for example, plus many more. If you are interested, do a search on the web for "bluetooth profiles", there is all kinds of info out there.
Hope that answers your question.

Does Sprint have any Bluetooth enabled phones?
About a week or so after putting down my deposit, I stoped by a Sprint PCS store (Not a reseller like Radio Shack or Circuit City) and asked. What I got for an answer was a smile, a chuckle and "maybe sometime next year."
If anyone hears or knows differently, please let us know.
Verizon is the same way - they used to have one Bluetooth phone (Motorola 270C) but they discountinued it, and the Bluetooth feature was never officially supported by Verizon. In general, CDMA phones tend not to have Bluetooth support, whereas there are plenty of GSM phones that have it. I'm happy with Verizon's service and coverage, but the Bluetooth hands-free link in the TL is a "killer app" and I'm going to have to switch providers.
Nextel Phones w/ Bluetooth....
Nextel i95cl
I just recieved an email from a Nextel rep who informed me that there is an adapter available to enable Bluetooth wireless functions on Nextel phones.
to anyone who is thinking of getting an AT&T T68i, DON'T !! You'll understand why after you buy it. I had mine when it first came out. The salesman told me not to buy it, but I couldn't resist the color screen (this was over a year ago when there weren't that many phones that took pics). I was the worst phone I've ever owned. If I ever buy another cell phone, it will always be a Nokia. I don't know why I went against the advice of the salesman, but I can tell you that won't happen again....

Be careful about this. Make sure the adapter supports the handsfree profile. It may just support the headset profile that from what I've heard doesn't work with the TL.
There are a lot of folks out there that think as long as it says Bluetooth on the box, it will work, that that isn't the case.
I haven't seen anything about Nextel phones working with the TL yet, so if were you ask them to demostrate it (if you have a TL) or make sure they will take it back if it doesn't work.
Does anybody know if Jabra or others make a Bluetooth adapter for non-Bluetooth phones that supports the handsfree profile?
I guess I will find out if the headset profile works in a few days, since my buddy has one and my TL is sitting at the dealer.

brahtw8,
As far as I know it won't work, but I can safely say I haven't hear of anyone trying.
My understanding is the headset adapters use a different Bluetooth profile than the "handsfree" profile required by the TL. If you look at the procedure required to sync the TL and the phone, you have to go through specific steps on the phone and if you are using a plug in adapter, you can't do that, since the phone just thinks it is a regular headset.
Give it a try and let us know what happened.

I signed the online Verizon petition to provide Bluetooth. I'm calculating cancellation charges so I can switch to AT & T when the V600 comes out next year. I've been a Verizon customer for almost 10 years and they provide great coverage, but the new safety feature definitely trumps customer loyalty.
For any GSM carriers, you can get any phone that has bluetooth and uses the frequency of the US. (1900 I believe) Whatever your carrier, it doesn't matter as long as the phone is not "locked" to a given carrier. Any "open" phone can be used and all you have to do is transfer the little SIM card that contains your phone number, phone book, etc to the new phone.
I plan to get a Nokia 6600 myself when I get my new TL in mid-04. This is a tri-band (or world phone) and has the color screen and polyphonic ring tones and of course blue tooth. This phone isn't even available with any of the carriers here.
I only say this to those of you that are planning to get phones AND are with GSM carriers (t-mobile, cingular, and AT&T I think) so that you don't have to be tied to the prices of these carriers. They usually sell units more expensive unless you get a NEW account with them.

For those of you waiting for the Motorola V600 from att you might be interested in this article. It has been delayed because of further testing. New date is in late April.

Sprint has the Sony Erricson T608 Bluetooth phone that you have to order from Sprint, you must call 866-PCS-AUTO and the price of the Phone is $199. Not too bad, though some users are having problems with it. I have it and the only problem so far is that it always doesn't pickup the call and sometimes it sounds like the caller is underwater.. but still workable.. you can check out some reviews at www.sprintusers.com It's a neat feature, and impressive to others who ride in the car..
FUCHS: nothing happens on the TL screen when you receive an SMS on your bluetooth phone.
MikeRadio: bluetooth SD cards are not compatible with Treo 600. There are rumors of a Treo 610 with BT, but otherwise there is no way to use the Treo with your TL. Sorry!
brahtw8: unfortunately, there are no adapters on the market that support hands free profile.
All Sprint Users: you can get a Sony Ericsson T608 on ebay for between $150 and $300. This is the only Sprint/Bluetooth phone. I have one - it works AWESOME in my TL. The phone isn't great - no camera or extras, battery life is only fair, and the operating system is limited and slow. For moderate use, it is fine.

There was a statement from the CEO of Motorola taking blame for Motorola as for the reason of the delay(somewhere on Yahoo news), though inside sources say it was the buggy software that AT&T had problems with. It was scheduled earlier this month to be released sometime in April but the time frame has moved up to the end of this month. March 29th to be exact.
If this is true remains to be seen, but stores have already received their launch materials for the phone.
To give some info on the phone, I recently aquired a Hong kong Version of the V600 and had it flashed with North American Firmware and flex.
It does work with the HFL but not perfectly. You do not get the battery meter and mine (could have been bad) did not perform well when entering extensions or number commands such as "7' to delete voicemail. What is did was produce a sound much like when someone holds down the key to long, there for negating any effect on the call.
Also I did have some static at times and disconnection. That could be related to the HFL system, having that checked next week.
Over all the phone is solid and has probably the best screen to date on a phone, minus the Sharp GX22 or GX30, but the price alone can equal two car payments for these phones.
The ability to play MP3's is a plus but more of a novelty than anything, camera is pretty good considering it's a on a phone, and the reception is very good.
Even with the firmware update the phone did seem slow to react to buttons and the menu is a bit slow, but it has animated menu icons which could be the result of that.
This could in doubt be the next v60 if they get the software right.
But in terms of bluetooth, you can never go wrong with Sony Ericsson.
