Question Bluetooth locking problem

Hi all,
I have 2004 TL with Navi, and TL's HFL system got locked up when trying to answer a call. Even after the car is shut off, it says "In Use". My car thinks that I am still using the phone. I deleted the profile and bluetooh off from my phone, HFL system would not reset. It was in this stage for all weekend, and when it says "In Use" the speaker is on also. While it is in error mode, no radio, cd, or anything with audio works.

I took the car to the dealer first thing on Monday, and they had no clue. They disconnected the battery, and then it reset. Has anyone experienced the same thing? If you have, what was the fix? Please let me know.

There are a few posts here on this. So far the "fix" is to disconnect the battery. Some people have had success just waiting it out until it resets on its own, but since you took it in on a Monday I'm guessing it was hanging for a while already. I know you're not the first to experience this problem.

I had similar problem with the HFL - also the outside temperature reading showed --- instead of a temperature. The dealer took about 15 man hours attempting to solve. They even swapped out some of the control units. Finally Acura told them to disconnect battery for two minutes. Everything reset and now works. The computer systems need to reboot and unfortunately the "reset" button is disconnecting the battery.

My HFL locked up last Tuesday, it just displays "Booting up". I took it to the local dealer and they advised that the only fix is to replace the HFL module. Disconnecting the battery may reset but it returns according to them.

There is a Nationwide back order on the part but they hope to have it soon. Not a real big deal as I never got used to having it and I am confident they will fix it as soon as the part comes in.

Thank you for posting your remarks. It seems like only thing they can do is to replace the HFL module, but would replacing this unit solve the problem? It locked out 3 times before it completed locked up. I don't want to disconnect the battery each time it gets locked. Should I tell the dealer to order the parts anyway?

If this happens to mine (build dates 27 Apr - 1 May), I'm taking it in and having them order the part. If enough people do this they'll recognize the problem is somewhat widespread and, hopefully, engineer a real fix for it. I'm not sure if the new HFL control they're putting in is a redesign or just a replacement.

Posted on an earlier thread...

My system locked up displaying in use whether the car was on or off, key in or not. The dealer replaced my button on the steering column. It has not locked up since. But it also has not been without similar issues. The lock up has not lasted as long though. I will keep you all tuned in as time passes. For now I recommend that you all have the dealer check your engage button part of the system.

I would recommend upgrading your firmware since the T-Mobile T610 is R1S0xx and the version I have is R6B004 while I still have yet to test out the R6C version that I just received.

For Everybody, if your phones are acting up, try swapping your phone out with your provider's handset exchange program, then also going to the dealer and taking care of the HFL unit, if both of these don't work, then I would recommend the firmware upgrade.

Possible alternative fix

While I never experienced the exact symptoms mentioned in this thread, I did have a few occasions where the HFL system was very 'confused'. The dealer spent some time dumping codes and analyzing them. The discovered all of the error codes were from controllers all attached to the same ground connection in the car which they tightened. It's too early to tell if that helped, but its a very plausable explaination. They also promised to tag this in my record and insure all error codes are dumped on every service to see if the problem has been cleared. I've got my fingers crossed.

I just spoke to Pohanka Service Dept and the part is still on back order. I know it's not there fault but it is a little annoying. I'm thinking about calling ACS and seeing if they can help :lol1:
