there is no such thing as a best subwoofer. it depends on what you are looking for in a subwoofer

I have 2 Orion 12" DVC's 1500 watts a piece. I have my gain turned down all the way and my headunit's bass setting turned down all the way. It is overpowering still with the factory door speakers. Blose just doesn't cut it with car audio. The subs are unbelievable they hit extremely hard and are very clear no distortion, but if you getting big powerful subs I would replace speakers and headunit too. Best brands are Orion, Eclipse, JL Audio and Kicker. You can't go wrong with any of those brands. You should specify what kind of music you most listen to and how loud do you like your bass to be. Do you like it to hit hard, boom or a bit of both? How much space are you willing to depart with in your trunk. 2 12's in a sealed box take up half the trunk just about. One 12" wouldn't take up much space.

I have 1 10in. JL W7 with a JL Audio 500/1 amp, and it's enough for me (especially at $800 for amp, woofer, ported box, and cords)

you really wont go wrong unless you go very cheep...you get what you pay for. But if you arent looking for really hard core bass, then the JLW7 and the like are way overkill for you.

be sure to get a sealed box then. Thats what I have, and the sound is nice and tight on all types of music.

yeah, there is no best sub out there. It's all subjective. But if you want a good quality top of the line sub, do some research. The best ones will be evident. It took me a couple months to decide. There are a lot of variables to consider: Cost, What kind of car it's going into, How much trunk space do you want to sacrifice, what kinda music do you listen to, do you want sealed or ported, do you want room to upgrade in the future i.e. do you want to be able to make your system louder, do you care about the weight of the system. My sub weighs about 60 pounds alone. I decided on a 15" RE XXX. You can check my system here: https://acurazine.com/forums/car-parts-sale-361/comptech-sale-101684/

Also you should consider an amp while your looking for a sub. you should kinda pick them out at the same time to know exactly what voice coil config. you need to buy. By knowing what amp you are getting, you will know exactly how you can and can't wire the sub and how many watts you will get at what ohm load. Here's some advice, definitely get a DVC(Dual voice coil) subwoofer, no reason not to, it's only a few bucks more then an SVC and you will have more wiring capabilities and be able to upgrade.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

I have 2, 10'' alpine typwe r's, and they kick man. I also have 2 mtx 800 watt amps one for each sub with a power cap. They enough power to power 4 of them i think. Also anyone know places to find custom painted wheels. I love the foose speedster 19's, but i dont want chrome, i want to customize it that much further and have them painted to match my white diamond '04 TL. Any options or ideas. I want to keep the chrome lip but have the 4 spokes custom done.

There is only a good subwoofer for YOUR TYpe of music. The box is what really matters in these installs anyways. All the subs that everyone is listing are good for the most part.

If you want a sub that POUNDS, you should go with the Image Dynamics IDMAX12.. that thing can take 1000W RMS all day long... and sound quality is top notch. but again everything is good just get a real good box built and you are all set.

I have a pair of Alpine DVC Type R 12's and they boom really hard and tight. Very impressive sub I must say. I was thinking of selling my pair 12's and buying just 1 15 Type R sub. WOuld you think 1-15 Type R will sound better in terms of SPL than my pair 12's????

Damn, man, you've got to improve your grammar on here. It doesn't have to be thesis level, but sometimes I have a hard time trying to figure out what the hell you're even trying to say.

The Alpine Type R, although a quality subwoofer, are far and away from being the loudest ones out there. Oh, and by the way, they handle 500 watts RMS. I hate when people quote peak wattage numbers when referring to amps and speakers.

Back to the subject at hand. There are many quality subwoofers out there. Generally, as with most things, you get what you pay for when it comes to subwoofers. Some are a better value than others, but you get my point. One item that you shouldn't skimp is wiring. Get some quality patch cable and speaker wires.

Also get a well matched quality amplifier, one that has a power output approx. the same as the sub, in terms of RMS watts. Another item, as has also been mentioned previously, is good solid box. The three main types of boxes are sealed, ported, and band-pass. They all have their pro's and con's. Certain woofers are designed for use in specific types of boxes. Others can perform well in a wide range of boxes. Personally, I prefer the sound of a sealed box setup. The tighter the bass, the better, IMO.

If you want a decent amount of bass without taking too much room, go with a small sealed enclosure matched with a sub designed for such an application. Look for a sub that requires a sealed box volume of <1.0 cubic feet. Rockford Fosgate, Kicker, Alpine, JL Audio, among others all make good subs that fit this criterion.

Alot of these systems sound extreme. Are you trying to have enough bass for you, or your neighbors, people in the streets, cars next to you and around you, and in some cases, anyone within a half mile radius of you?

Hey! What's wrong with that? Just kidding. Yeah, some of these suggested systems might be a little overkill.

Stick with a sealed box and a reasonably priced system. The more money generally the better stuff. I have sold countless systems and every speaker has it's advantages. JL W7's are great subs but not the best on the market. Sometimes the smaller names give you more bang for your buck. I have heard good feedback about Alpine Type X's and some underground brands like Massive audio (reasonably priced bump). Every person has their own opinions which are generally based on brand preference.

yeah i just went to Tweeters today and got a whole system set out(speakers, subs, amp,RCA's, wirings) it came out to about $1200, for all Boston Acoustic Speakers, one 12' JL W3V2 in a sealed box, alpine amps for sub and speakers, and an alpine HU. Very nice system. He also mentiond he could make a conceald sub box on the side of the trunk, but thats $500. So all i have to get is the money, and im set.(im sure i can save money tho by searching around to find the parts for alot cheaper)

Ya that store isnt known for cheep prices, they usually have MSRP prices, but sometimes you can get a total package deal. In other words, you can talk them down. Another way is if you can get cash. I wouldnt get the sub on the side of the trunk for sound level purposes and SQ. Those subs are pretty good also, I have 2 of them with 350 watts/sub and it hits real hard, Ill probably drop down to just one when I get all grown up...damn thats pretty soon actually

You might want to get a ported box with only 1 of those subs...it will play louder than sealed, but you will lose some SQ. Just depends on what you want.
