best subwoofer to get

sorry if this has been covered but I had 2 12inch Rockford Fosegate subwoofers in my trunk...one blew...replaced it. The other one blew....kept the other one in and now that one blew. So needless to say I'm not a fan of Rockford Fosegate now. Any recomendations on what kind i should get now?

Might want to address the issue causing your subs to blow before sinking more money into the woofers.

What amp are you running for the subs? What are the specs on it?

It might be your amp that is killing your subs. And SPL = (Sound Pressure Levels)

I agree, it sounds like your amp isn't providing enough power and the distortion from pushing it could be blowing them.

The hot trend right now, and subs can be trendy, is the Alpine Type R. It's fairly inexpensive, has good sound quality (not great, but very good), hits hard and doesn't require massive amounts of power; 300 - 500 watts will certainly be enough to do it justice. The Caraudio.com forum is an amazing resource.

i had the infinity 10.1d 350rms, blew 2 of them, not sure if it was b/c i had 420rms going to them but now have the alpine type r, its hit but its not as loud as the infinity, seems like it can really use all 500rms it says it can handle.

on the amp. Sometimes that amp can just faulter and start sending "dirty" power. The distortion or dirty power is what will kill a sub/speaker.

re: subs

your best bet would be infinity kappa perfects or JL audio subs the infinitys are the best bang for the buck the JL's could get pricey depending on the model you go for

Maybe you're using the max wattage as a measure instead of the RMS value. Meaning that your amp is pushing more power than the subs can handle

I would step back a second and think what exactly you want ot acheive with your system (SQ or SPL) and then take a look at the amp. Maybe upgrading the amp and then going with the Alpine Type-R's as mentioned above would be a good route for a solid and rather inexpensive setup

Yeah you should consider whether u want ur system to be very musical or just plain louuud. I currently have the MTX 9500 and it's ridiculous how loud it gets. It get's my vote for best sub, but then again i had an Alpine Type R which was very impressive. I ran 800watts to it and it took it like a champ... W7's are to expensive and I can say that the better subs out there that are affordable have got to be the Type R. It's mainly an SPL sub but can be a very musical sub for whatever u listen to.

The jack hammer wouldn't fit in the trunk without a box That bad boy is huge!

I say turn down your gain! If you're running 12" fosgates in to the ground, you must be killing your ears! Blowing a 10" speaker every once in a while is one thing, but consistantly blowing 12s means that you are way too def to know the difference between loud and really fkn loud.
