Best place for amp?

I am expecting the last pieces for my stereo upgrade and wanted to ask where everyone has put their amps. I am using a Basslink for the sub but will be running a set of front components and the rear door speakers through a four-channel amp tied into an EQ.

The amp is almost exactly the size of a box of Fancy Feast cat food so I did some testing with the Ocean Fish selection. Under the passenger seat is definately out. The most promising location is either behind the passenger-side rear seat inside the moulded carpet section or on the outside of the same part near the taillight. I'll also need room for a small fused distribution box to organize the hots and probably a ground block too.

Where have you guys put yours?

Thanks, Skip

You never did say what kind of an you are using, or how big the EQ is... Anywho, I would NOT reccomend behind the carpet for an amplifier. There is not enough air flow back there. This would be doable if you were to add someducting with fans, but you would have to cut hols in your side carpet. This location would be good for you EQ and power distribution, but not very accessable... I tucked my power and ground behind it, but if I ever blow a fuse, it'll be a pain to replace, so I just plan on that not happening I will also probley tuck my video converter and relay set behind there later as well.

You could mount it beside the taillight, but you would not be able to also use the cargo net, if you were ever to want one. The next best idea would be to mount them on the floor behind the fold-down seats. Make a cover for everything out of a mesh grill covered in grill cloth and carpet. The grill would keep everything safe if you use a heavy gauge, the carpet would make it match the trunk, and use grill cloth in the hot areas so the amp can cool. The entire cover would not have to be more than a 1/4" to 1/2" taller than the thickest piece of gear.

Or you could ditch the basslink and go full custom like I did

The EQ will be going in the storage bin under the head unit. It will become the new master, fader and sub control. I think I'll stay with the Basslink for now. It is going on a piece of carpeted plywood velcroed in place. The power, ground and turn-on will be together in a heavy duty locking plug and socket so I can remove it when I need the space.

I may just go traditional and put the amp on the larger of the two rear seat backs. I don't put them down very often and can use the smaller one for a pass-through. An old Chevy longbed handles the larger items anyway. The power block will go as near the amp as is practical.
