Aux input adapter instructions

on http://store.yahoo.com/logjam/sounsnhond3.html
Which had been posted on the now dead site for a while, they have added some information addressing it's use in cars with the nav system

They have added the following information-
ATTENTION NAVIGATION OWNERS: For Accord and TSX owners whose vehicles have navigation systems, here is a modification of the SNHOND3 adapter that will allow it to work in your vehicle. This modification was sent to us by a customer who did the research and made the modification to his SNHOND3, installed it into his 2003 Accord and reported it worked perfectly. Please be advised, this modification will void the warranty on the SNHOND3, and Logjam Electronics gives no warranty, either expressed or implied regarding this modification, so proceed at your own risk.

First, You will have to purchase a cable from your local Honda Parts Dept. (P/N 08A31-0E1-010) at approximately $25.00. Then, you will have to cut the cable into 2 pieces. You will also have to cut the SNHOND3 cable's end off. Then, you will have to wire one end of your newly purchased cable onto the SNHOND3 where the old end was. The bottom line is that in vehicles with Navigation, the gender of the Soundgate cable is not correct with the vehicle. Note: There may be an adapter available in the future as SoundGate is researching this. However, the interface works perfectly when the end of the cable is replaced.

You would use it to add an Aux input for Sat radio or anything else you want to input into the system without a FM modulator

Finally!!! But before I whip out my credit card, can anyone vouch for this website? Also, do I go to Best Buy or Circuit City to get this badboy installed?

i got an adapter from logjam for my sister's car. I asked for overnight but they gave me ground which sucked hard going from california to new orleans.

However they did refund me all shipping cost which did help.

Really helpful folk, i'd order from them again.

That is the adaptor for the non-navi. You don't need the extra part from Acura unless you have the navi.

I started this thread on the oldsite. I am glad to see they have more information about the adaptor they sale now. This looks like the real deal. I will look over at vtec.net to see if anybody has installed this adaptor on an 03 Accord.

I went and checked out SoundGate's website and logjam was listed as an authorized distributor, so no worries there.

How are you planning to install the adapter? Do it yourself or someplace like Best Buy? Where do you plan to mount the thing? Will you mount the box somewhere in the dash and just expose the tip of the RCA plugs? If so, where? Thanks for everyone's help. I am really excited about this mod.

I don't even have a TSX yet. I am just keeping my audio options open.

Vouch for it?
Dunno why that would be necessary.

Will facts do?

I ordered a SOUNDGATE SNHOND3 on monday morning; paid for second day air shipping (two bucks more than ground); got it tuesday afternoon.
No muss, no fuss...
I generally buy stuff online a couple times a year and the experience was pretty much standard:
1- You place the order online through a credit card, which means you don't really pay for about 30 days; ample time to install and verify the adapter works and if you should have any problems getting satisfactory service, you just challenge the billing to the credit card company and let their lawyers figure it out. (Never have had to do it on online orders but it is good to know I'm at no risk.)
2- As soon as the order is completed, you get a confirmation e-mail.
3- Later that day I got two more e-mails; one with the tracking number for the shipment and the second a confirmation that the order had been filled and my card charged. Think of it as an online receipt.

All straightforward, smooth, and professionally handled.
LOGJAM operates under the aegis of the Yahoo online shopping "mall" and I've never had a problem shopping through them.
After I got the adapter, I went out and picked up an 8 ft RCA plug to mini-headphone plug cable; a THX-series MONSTER CABLE with extra thick shielding.

Now all I have to do is wait for the car to get here.
It is due "Real. soon. now"
Two weeks overdue by the promised date; two weeks short of the generally quoted five weeks.
Which is to say, I wish the car dealer were as transparant with their info or had as good a grip on their supply chain (whatever the cause of the "delay" might be) as your typical online mom-and-pop shop.

As for installation, I hope to get the dealer to do it before I take final delivery; if they change their minds, the guys at CIRCUIT CITY said they would do it. Or I could go to the car audio place or the Honda dealer just down the street.

But my first choice is the ACURA dealer since their guys (presumably) already know how to open up the TSX dash safely.

Just reporting on my experience in case it helps.
I'll follow up once I get the car and I plug my RIO RIOT jukebox in.
I expect good things.

You can plug in anything with standard audio outputs; worst case scenario you might need a BOOSTAROO in-line amp or an in-line volume control if you find the volume unacceptably low or high.
But for most contemporary electronics, you should be able to plug anything in; DVD player, laptop, pocket TV, Digital Media player, whatever...

If you can feed it to your home stereo auxiliary-in, it should work...

Of course, I'll only know for sure *after* I install mine...

Only for the sound. For the video, you'd have to get a separate unit, available from http://www.avelectronic.com/Nav-TVTuner.htm

They also have a power rear sunshade coming out for those who wants. We could probably even take one from the Japan Accord for perfect fit. Again, Larch, your all over that

Anyone know the quality of teh screen, pixels, color, resolution?
How would TV or movie look on it or even the camera?
Thanks

You guys should submit a bunch of requests to BlitzSafe to make an adapter for the TSX. I, and many others, have gotten the one for the TL and it works great!

Enough already with the TV/DVD stuff in the dash. It's dangerous and dumb.

We're all real drivers here. I'm shocked so many WANT this distraction. It's no different than the fools we laugh at for reading or putting on makeup while doing 70.

Does this irk anybody else?

Not me. I do have the unit installed. Its no bigger a distraction than the navi itself.

Last week i drove 10 hours to north carolina and with the dvd player the trip went much faster.

Has anybody installed this thing? I have a non-Navi unit on the way and am very interested in this. Do we take the dash apart? Will it disable the built-in 6 disc changer?

Sorry if these are answered somewhere already.

Hey man, Acura put an 8" screen on the dashboard. THAT is the distraction. Whether you use it for navi, or TV, or DVD is your own business. Personally, I think it would be pretty cool to be able to browse the internet with this 8" screen. Not while you're driving of course, but the passenger could be doing useful stuff like making airline reservations or posting to this board!!

I agree with you that drivers need to pay attention to the road, and not get distracted by their cell phones or their car's dashboards.

It will not disable the cd player, and taking the dash apart is pretty simple. I have had my navi unit out several times.

I have steps in how to remove all of the dash, just not on my laptop.... if you want to see them, let me know.

True, a 8" screen IS a distraction. But there's a huge difference between a map and hyperactive TV commercials or an action movie.

Plus, TV/movies are propelled by sound. Effects, music, dialoge. That's more likely to draw a driver's attention.

I'm all for the web stuff but ONLY for the passenger. Those only-when-driving lockouts are easily defeated.

Just seems wrong to me.

a reply to captain jack

well captain, i think a tv on the dash is pretty cool. if you dont like it that is fine but referring to my inquiry as dumb or foolish is rather rude. i dont see a problem with tricking the nav system out if it is cheap enough. just dont drive around dfw, i may smash into your tsx while i watch porn.

FYI. It's illegal in my state, and for good reason. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have a DVD/NAV set-up, but it is a bad idea relating to driver safety. Your post isn't dumb or foolish.

I had it installed today.
Paid the dealer to do it for me, so the interior would be safe.
(Pournelle's Law: if you don't know what you're doing, pay somebody who does.)
I had earlier talked to the guys at a local car audio shop and they were quite willing to install it for me but they couldn't figure out how to get to the head unit and decided not to risk it until they did some more research. The dealer charged more but they knew how to get in there and I was able to talk them into doing it for me.

As is, the cost of the adapter, the cable, and my digital music player (I have a RioRiot--love it!) is a lot less than the cost of the honda mp3 player.

As to how it works, well; it passed the silence test: crank up the volume on the head unit with no music playing on the connected player. Result: total silence.

I tested a couple of songs off both the CD and the jukebox and the sound is identical, up to and including the volume level.

So:

1- Yes, the adapter works fine with the TSX head unit.
2- Yes, the quality is great. (To my ears, anyway.) No interference or extraneous noises.
3- Yes, the volume level is acceptable (level 25 fills the cabin with the windows down during a freeway run) although it will not shatter glass or eardrums at maximum power.
4- No, it doesn't disable anything. It just *enables* the otherwise inactive AUX setting on the head unit.
5- Yup, I'm happy.

Good luck!
