Audio upgrades in my TSX (pics)
Audio upgrades in my TSX (pics)
Wanted to post a few pics of the audio upgrades I have done to my '05 TSX. Nothing too fancy here, just basic upgrades to improve the sound and have the convenience of having my iPod in the car. I did all of th work myself except for the sub enclosure. I added a 1/8" stereo input in the center console, similar to the stock '06 input. I used CJams instructions to tap into the stock XM wires (although I bought the Honda harness so I dd not cut any stock wires). I used a Soundgate Aux-3 input switcher to toggle between XM and iPod. Since the pics were taken, I have given up on the cup holder mount. I was finding myself taking my eyes off the road for too long when changing songs. Also was a pian to keep removing and reinserting it into the case I use for it, I now just leave enough slack in the cable to pull it closer to eye level to change songs, then put it in the cup holder or on the passenger seat. The sub is a 10W3 and the amp is a 250/1. My main goals on the sub were to beef up the low end while keeping as much trunk space as possible and retaining the pass-through. Both of my sons play hockey and one plays guitar. It is not uncommon to have 2 practices and a guitar lesson the same night, so i then have 2 hockey bags, 4 sticks, and a guitar in there. The shop that built the enclosure for me understood exactly what I wanted and I am VERY happy with the size of the enclosure as well as he sound.

Very nice looking!
I have an iPod in the cupholder stand too, but I don't like it there. Need to be able to use them! Still looking for a good spot to mount...
I'm guessing your shop just tapped into the 6*9's for the bass signal?
Get a lot of trunk rattle?

Thanks for the kind words. I installed the amp, but yes, tapped the 6x9's for signal. Didn't use an LOC since the JL inputs will handle the voltage. I bought the harnesses that you'd use to add aftermarket speakers and soldered RCA cables to them.

(Were $10 from Circuit City)
I am real big on not modifying any stock wiring/parts if I don't have to.
I just unplugged the 6x9's and plugged the cables into the new harness/RCA.

Thanks. I paid $250 for the enclosure and $180 for the sub. I agree, flush mounting would have been nice. I think they were VERY close to a clearance problem in the rear so flush mounting would have have probably brought the face out a little bit, but wouldn't have been a big deal. I eventually plan to remove the grill and build something custom, but not in a huge hurry.
