Audio Expert Needed???

Hi all,

I went down to a local stereo place and got the following quotes:

1. Clarion 7" in dash monitor for $1800
2. Clarion DVD player $800
3. Compact sub and box $329
4. Compact 200watts amp $150

Total w/ labor is $3500

Do u guys think it is a good deal?
Would u recommend the Compact sub?
Does Clarion make a NAV unit?

thx all

David

Dear lord that's a horrible deal. Do me a favor and wait...I assume the 7" in dash is the VRX925VD, the new touchscreen dvd one they unveiled at CES on Jan 8. In which case wait a while on that one for the price to drop. If you were talking about the VRX815, that one should be had for no more than $1100 or so. You can get an in dash Clarion DVD only for $400 ish...and most standalone DVD players go for no more than $500 max. As for the sub and amp...what type? You can buy my two JL 12 w6 competition subs for $300...so no, they're overcharging you for the sub and box as well. And a 200w amp? That's it? That I assume is to power the sub...pretty tiny amp there fella. If you have specific parts let me know and I'll help you out...or if you want recommendations I do that too.

Clarion does make a navigation setup with it's Joyride HU...but well you're looking about probably close to $2500 with the HU, DVD setup etc...for that I could build you a car computer, install it, use the extra and go buy myself some headers.

And why are you going all Clarion out of curiosity? Why not any of the other major manufacturers that make this type of stuff? Although I like Clarion...what you want will be very expensive.

Print this from here below and take to shop with you-

They are totally bull****ting you. Realistically:

1. Clarion 7" in dash monitor w/ cd am/fm etc (VRX815): $1100. Only the new one would be $1800, and they don't have it yet...and if they say they do they're lying.
2. Clarion In Dash DVD: $450
3. 2x JL Audio 12 w6 Subwoofers and Box: $330
4. Rockford Fosgate Power Series 400W: amp $150

And it's cute that they make it sound like they're undercharging for labor ($421), but make their money up by ripping your guts out in the equipment.

Sadly, the labor rate is the only accurate thing, because they pay the installers crap and keep the money for the white collar sale jerks. They're making about 40% profit off of you, and they can take it up the arse.

Oh and they'll probably say "oh he's BSing...he can't get you real authorized stuff that low". Tell them I'll see them at the next IASCA tournament ha, with their bloated wallets too. If they don't give you a MUCH better deal I will get you the prices I listed above, period. And then you can tell all your friends I was right and never to go to them

---------

My personal opinions Man I hate shops like that. If you actually show them the above, they'll probably **** bricks...anyway. Hope that helped...

Austin,

Thanks for the advise. The only problem I have is that I have to buy it from them to have them install it. Where do u get your prices from? The JL sound like a great deal. What do u think about the alumapro bp10 enclosure? What kind of amp would I need to power it?

I like the clarion b/c the pull out screen has touchscreen. Do u know much about it clarion audio pc unit?

thx

What is a computer system for your car?
