Sup dood! Question for you...do you know anything about the Pioneer mute module? From what the site says it automatically mutes the stereo when there is an incoming or outgoing phone call. Is this true? If so how hard is it to install and or maintain. I want it! Let me know bro!

dont think it will work with the navi mute as its on a different frequency. check the pioneer site. If it does work though maybe i will add two mute modules. one for the cell phone and one for the navigation unit.

The pioneer module DOES mute the head unit on incoming calls. But only works with headunits that have the MUTE wire coming out of them and only work on "Frequency" so it won't work with the navi how it is.

 

I have the mute module and all it does is provide a - signal to the head unit when ever the phone is in use. if you can mute your head unit with a - signal then there should be no problem. you will probly have to order it from pioneer like i did because i have never found any shops that will stock it. it costs 35 bucks and you can use it on any head unit that has a mute circut or if you want to get fancy you could use a relay for each of the speakers to mute them when it activates. it works great but i have had trouble with my motorola startac phone because it uses CDMA witch is a lot lower signal than other phones. the prolblem is that it does not detect the call in progress as well as a TDMA phone or analog phone.

It's very simple to install, but just does not work well with all phones (depends on their frequency like I stated above). You want to know how to mute the head unit with the navi is what you are getting at, no?

 

No, i was just wondering how easy it is to install the mute module for the cell phone. Either I can do it myself its a easy process or if it is time consuming i was going to let my installer do it. I have very little time thats why I was asking.

I do know of a way to mute the radio when you want to use the navi though...turn the music down!

it is an easy install. ther eare only 3 wires blue, black and yellow all you do is connect the black to ground, the blue to the amp turn on and the yello to the mute circut. then mount the unit near the phone under carpet or trim. if you have a digital phone using CDMA technology it will only mute when the phone is closer than about 18-20 inches. there is an adjustment on the unit that allows low medium or high sensitivity. it seems that over the last 2 years i have had the unit it has lost some of its sensitivity. with my analog phone i could activate it on the low setting with my phone being used anywhere in the front seats. over the years i have had up the sensitivity to max and it wouldent always mute. maby i got a bad unit? i dont know but i am sure a new unit will work a lot better than the one i have.

hmmm. I have the pioneer brain in the trunk. If i set the level to the highest sensitivity should it pick up the signal, or not? also how long is the wire? if it is long enough maybe i can run it through to the back seat and mount it there? comments?

It's in the cards. There are multiple people who have done it. I just wanted to use the pioneer mute if possible so I could potentially split it with the phone.
