CL: Anyone tried this for dvd/camera on the nav screen?
Anyone tried this for dvd/camera on the nav screen?
In researching the purchase of my CL, of course I want to get one with the navigation system. We know the "dvd" player in the trunk will not play video dvd movies. And we know that an automatic backup camera would be awesome.
I've found two devices with wiring for the Acura system which both claim similar features: two video inputs, one dedicated to a backup camera which will automatically override the nav screen with camera signal when wired to do so (i.e. signal from the rev lights), and install between the nav computer in the trunk and the dash screen.
So anyone tried these or something like it?
this one looks a little more cheaply made: http://www.autotoys.com/x/product.php?productid=9232
while this looks more hardened and does not require a parking brake signal to allow dvd player feed: http://www.tvandnav.com/index.asp?Pa...WPROD&ProdID=4
The $350 unit would be the one I would lean toward buying. It seems more complete and professional.
Reviews around the web of this being done has suggested that the video quality is fairly low. But anyone with good video knowledge knows it has everything to do with the screen... since it was not really meant for full motion video anyway. Audio of course would have to come through an FM frequency without an aftermarket head.
Thoughts?

Jonathan: Hello and welcome, I am new here and just purchased my CL a few days ago. With Navigation of course for a similar setup as use. Great info on the links man, thanks!
I'm finding I cannot hack the Navi unit like on the newer models to update the graphics, so I'm a little bummed about that. I have a Kenwood double-DIN unit I'll be installing the handle the backup camera, but would still like to do something creative for the DVD screen, such as updated graphics or porting over my ipod screen probably.
I'm going to look at the two items you listed and check them out also, as far as the parking signal "requirement", I don't want to get people angry, but it is usually "optional" at the time of install. I have my Kenwood able to be fully controlled and play DVD's while driving, but it is dangerous LOL
Good luck and will let you know as I learn more, would also love to find out more as you do! Thanks.
