is anyone still looking for a way to charge their zune?

for quite some time i was looking for a way to chage my zune in my car (since i have the blitzsafe adapter) but roadtrips were a plan PITA because my zune would die on the last hour or two of driving.... well i found an alternative a cheap fix since most of the ebay zune car chargers do not work. if anyone is interested, i'm willing to write a mini tutorial.

***Disclaimer***

i take no responsibility for what you do to your zune or car, this is a very simple, explanitory DIY i just felt like i could give back to the community because there was a community of people who needed means to charge their zune.

**************

first off, go to walmart and pick up some sticky back velcro (found in the sewing aisle) and a black and decker 100 Watt MicroSlim™ Inverter - PI100AESB (http://www.hechinger.com/web/catalog...LAID=194122621 can also be found at walmart)

here is the inverter:

convienantly it has a 3 prong power outlet and a usb port, we will be using the USB port for the zune.

clear out your center console:

the inverter is not too big, but it generates a LOT of heat so make sure you allow for ventilation

notice how the back of the inverter does not have any ventilation holes, we will be applying velcro to that side:

then apply the other part of the velcro to the center console:

install the power inverter:

plug in your sync cable to the zune and route it down to the power inverter:

alas! you have a charging zune!

you can throw away these cheap ebay things, they never work!

close your console up and you have no wires showing!

And how do you have the audio run through your system? Are you running an aftermarket headunit?

Does anyone know how to hook up the Zune to the stock stereo w/o using a shitty fm tuner?

no, i'm on stock headunit, i'm using the blitzsafe adapter and i ran the RCA cable all the way past my shifter and under the console so that no wires are exposed.

my only worry is that blitzsafe and others say they don't work with a nav equipped car.

You can call them but the Blitzsafe works fine in my Nav 01 CL-S. I have NO idea why they don't update that reference sheet they have. I swear it's like 6 years behind now.

And just FYI.. To make things a little cleaner there's PLENTY of space underneath the center console..

before you buy, there is something made especially for the zune, i can't remember who makes it but it's $200 if i knew about it i would have gone with that instead of the blitzsafe because supposedly with this unit, it charges and you can use your steering wheel to change the songs and whatnot. now that i have the blitzsafe i dunno if i really want to fork out $200 just for that.

i wish i could remember who made it though.

Soundgate makes it. Soundgate.com, on the left is "Zune integration"

Soundgate says... "CL 3.0 / 3.2 1998-04 Without 6 Disc in dash radio"

I have a changer. also it says that Zune control for the CL is TBA.
