Anyone know how to unhook odometer ?
I'm not really planning on doing it anyway because I don't think it's right and would be worried about getting caught. Plus I wouldn't want to screw anybody over because I would hate it if happened to me. The real reason I asked is because I own a detail shop next to a car dealer and every time I go over there browsing at their inventory I have seen several of cars with the clusters taken out. There's not a question in my mind that they turn back the miles. I have heard a few stories about this particular dealership but I just want to know how they can get away with doing this without getting caught? Doesn't it show up on a car-fax report or when you get your car inspected? I just don't understand how they do this to a digital odometer without any trace.
Don't they turn in the mileage to the state for state inspections (well, for states where they have inspections)?
I looked at my car report for the old car, and it listed every state inspection since 1988 with the mileage.
